Employee relations superintendent – musselwhite mine
purpose
the employee relations superintendent is responsible for leading the employee relations function for a remote mining operation, ensuring effective management of workplace risk, employee relations governance, policy application, investigations, and workforce compliance in line with our people systems model.
this role provides strategic oversight and direction for operational hr service delivery through the hr operations & employee relations team, ensuring consistent application of employment legislation, company policies, disciplinary frameworks, and workplace standards across site operations.
key responsibilities
* lead the employee relations strategy and framework for site operations.
* ensure consistent and legally compliant application of:
o disciplinary processes
o attendance management
o performance management frameworks
o workplace investigations
o accommodation practices
* provide oversight and direction on complex and high-risk employee relations matters.
* act as senior escalation points for investigations, disciplinary outcomes, and workplace conflicts.
* ensure compliance with:
o employment legislation
o human rights legislation
o occupational health obligations
o company policies and standards
* oversee accommodation, disability management, and workplace compliance processes.
* support audit readiness and regulatory reporting requirements.
* ensure appropriate documentation standards and investigation records are maintained.
* coach operational leaders and hr teams on employee relations practices and workplace risk mitigation.
* support leaders in managing complex employee situations and workforce challenges.
* provide guidance on organizational change impacts, workforce conduct, and workplace culture issues.
* partner with leadership teams to improve workforce engagement and supervisory capability.
* support indigenous workforce participation and inclusion strategies.
* ensure alignment between indigenous employment initiatives and operational workforce needs.
* support community workforce engagement and employment partnership activities.
* perform additional related duties as assigned by the hr manager.
requirements
* bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, labour relations or related discipline.
* minimum 5 years’ experience in employee relations or labour relations.
* at least 3 years of experience in a hr leadership role.
* previous mining experience considered an asset.
* experience overseeing workplace investigations and case management.
* advanced knowledge of employment legislation, employee relations practices and workplace investigations.
* excellent communication skills.
* experience managing workforce risk in operational environments.
* strong leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution capability.
* ability to lead hr teams in fast paced, high demand environments.
* strong understanding of fifo workforce dynamics.
working conditions
* the musselwhite mine is a fly-in/fly-out operation.
* the schedule for this role is 4 days worked at site followed by 3 days off, working 10 hour days.
compensation
* the base salary range for this position is cad$138,000 – $168,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.
* this role is eligible to participate in the company’s annual short term incentive program. The target annual bonus for this position is 25% of base salary, subject to individual and company performance.
* the company offers a defined contribution pension plan (dcpp), including an automatic 5% employer contribution, with the option for employees to receive up to an additional 4% employer match on employee contributions.
