what you'll do as a consulting power bi developer, you will:
* design, develop, and deploy enterprise power bi reports, dashboards, and semantic models (datasets) that meet client business requirements and performance standards.
* build and optimize data models using sql, dax and power query (m), applying best practices for star schema design, calculated measures, and row-level security (rls).
* collaborate with data architects and engineers to connect power bi to data sources including on-prem sql, azure synapse analytics, microsoft fabric lakehouses, azure sql, and databricks.
* develop and maintain microsoft fabric workspaces, including lakehouses, data pipelines, and dataflows gen2, as part of end-to-end analytics solutions.
* translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable data visualizations and self-service bi capabilities for client stakeholders.
* implement deployment pipelines, version control practices, and workspace governance standards to ensure reliable, scalable bi solutions.
* support client enablement and knowledge transfer through documentation, training sessions, and handoff materials to ensure long-term client self-sufficiency.
* advise clients on power bi licensing, capacity planning (premium/fabric skus), and governance best practices aligned to their organizational maturity.
* contribute to the development of rapidscale's power bi practice standards, reusable solution templates, and internal knowledge resources.
* participate in pre-sales activities, including solution scoping, effort estimation, and delivery of client-facing presentations and demonstrations.
qualifications minimum requirements
* power bi expertise: advanced proficiency in power bi desktop, power bi service, and the full report development lifecycle.
* data modeling: strong command of dax for calculated columns, measures, and time intelligence; solid understanding of star/snowflake schema design.
* write advanced sql queries (joins, ctes, window functions, query optimization) to support analytical workloads.
* power query (m): ability to write and troubleshoot complex data transformation logic using power query in both power bi and dataflows.
* cloud data connectivity: experience connecting power bi to azure-based data sources such as azure sql database, azure synapse analytics, or azure data lake storage.
* microsoft fabric familiarity: working knowledge of microsoft fabric components including lakehouses, dataflows gen2, and semantic model integration.
* client communication: demonstrated ability to translate technical findings into clear business narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
* collaboration: experience working in cross-functional teams alongside data engineers, architects, and project managers. Preferred qualifications
* experience in a consulting or client-facing services delivery role.
* microsoft certifications such as pl-300 (power bi data analyst) or dp-600 (microsoft fabric analytics engineer).
* familiarity with other azure data platform services including azure data factory, azure databricks, or azure purview.
* experience with paginated reports (ssrs/rdl) for operational reporting requirements.
* exposure to ci/cd pipelines for bi assets using azure devops or github actions.
* knowledge of data governance and data catalog concepts within the microsoft ecosystem.
* familiarity with complementary bi tools such as tableau or qlik for client migration or comparison engagements.
