as part of the data engineering team you will design and implement azure-based solutions that secure performance and security. As a senior associate, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, troubleshoot complex issues, and stay updated with the latest azure features, securing your technical knowledge and contributing to innovative cloud solutions.
key responsibilities azure cloud operations (iaas & core platform)
* operate and support azure iaas workloads: virtual machines, vmss, vnets, vpn/expressroute, nsg/asg, load balancers, azure firewall, application gateway/waf.
* manage storage services (azure storage, managed disks, file shares) and backup/restore operations (azure backup, recovery services vault).
* implement and manage patching, image management, lifecycle management, and capacity planning for compute.
* maintain operational runbooks, sops, and standard build configurations.
azure paas operations
* support and operate azure paas services such as app service, functions, aks (if applicable), api management, sql/mi, cosmos db, key vault, service bus/event grid, and managed monitoring integrations.
* coordinate deployments and operational readiness with engineering teams (release validation, smoke checks, rollback plans).
* ensure high availability and resiliency patterns (zone redundancy, scaling rules, dr drills, failover testing).
vdi / azure virtual desktop (avd)
* administer azure virtual desktop: host pools, session hosts, workspaces, app groups, fslogix, scaling plans.
* monitor and troubleshoot avd performance, login issues, profile/storage issues, and user experience.
* manage gold images, image update cycles, and patching strategies for session hosts.
* ensure end-user reliability and performance while optimizing cost and scaling.
identity & access management (iam) – microsoft entra id (azure ad)
* administer entra id: rbac, pim, conditional access, mfa, sso, enterprise apps, app registrations, managed identities, service principals.
* implement least-privilege access, role engineering, access reviews, and audit readiness.
* support identity troubleshooting (token/auth issues, access failures, app consent, federation as applicable).
monitoring, incident, problem & change management
* own operational monitoring and alerting using azure monitor, log analytics, application insights, microsoft sentinel (if applicable), and third-party tools.
* lead incident response (l2/l3), major incident management, root cause analysis (rca), and problem management to prevent recurrence.
* drive change management best practices: risk assessment, approvals, maintenance windows, validation and backout plans.
automation, governance, security & cost management
* automate operational tasks using powershell, azure cli, arm/bicep/terraform, and azure automation/functions (as applicable).
* apply governance through azure policy, management groups, tagging standards, naming conventions, and landing zone practices.
* support security controls: key vault, secrets/cert rotation, vulnerability remediation coordination, defender for cloud posture improvements.
* optimize azure spend via cost analysis, rightsizing, reserved instances/savings plans, and scaling strategies.
required qualifications & experience
* 4– 6+ years in infrastructure/cloud operations with 3–5+ years hands‐on azure operations experience.
* strong expertise in azure iaas and networking fundamentals (routing, dns, firewalling, load balancing, private endpoints).
* strong operational experience with azure paas services (at least several of the services listed above).
* hands‐on administration of azure virtual desktop (avd) in enterprise environments.
* strong iam experience with microsoft entra id, including conditional access, pim, and rbac.
* proven experience in production support: monitoring, incident response, rca, change management.
* scripting/automation skills (powershell required; azure cli preferred; iac experience preferred).
* understanding of enterprise security principles and cloud governance.
preferred / nice-to-have
* experience with terraform and/or bicep at scale; ci/cd pipelines (azure devops/github actions).
* experience with microsoft sentinel, defender for cloud, and security incident workflows.
* knowledge of windows server administration, group policy/intune, and endpoint management for vdi scenarios.
* itil certification or strong itil-based operational practice.
* azure certifications (one or more):
o az-104 (azure administrator)
o az-305 (azure solutions architect)
