we are seeking a senior oracle dba engineer to join our information systems operations management team at alcon in mexico city.
in this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of enterprise-level oracle databases that support alcon's global operations.
you'll lead initiatives to automate database processes, improve system reliability, and implement best practice.
key responsibilities:
- administer and maintain oracle databases with a focus on performance, security, and availability.
- automate the installation, configuration, and maintenance of oracle software and related infrastructure.
- manage oracle multitenant architecture and support multiple pluggable databases (pdbs).
- implement robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
- monitor and manage oracle enterprise manager (oem) infrastructure for production environments.
- develop and maintain unix/linux shell scripts for database operations and system automation.
- enforce and routinely update database security standards and protocols.
- troubleshoot and resolve performance issues, database errors, and service disruptions.
- participate in source code management and release processes related to database scripts and configurations.
- provide guidance and mentoring to junior dbas; lead project-based database initiatives.
what you'll bring to alcon:
minimum requirements:
- bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as an oracle dba in an enterprise environment.
- fluent in english (written and verbal).
- strong understanding of oracle database architecture, security, and high-availability strategies.
preferred qualifications:
- proven experience as a database administrator (dba), with strong expertise in oracle databases, multitenant architecture, and data guard configurations.
- experience managing oracle enterprise manager (oem).
- proficiency with unix/linux scripting and automation.
- solid understanding of backup and recovery techniques, including rman.
- familiarity with devops tools and version control systems (e.g., git).
- strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- leadership experience or prior involvement in mentoring/junior dba support is a plus.
