As part of the advanced manufacturing team, the electrical test engineer will support pcba manufacturing by working closely with contract manufacturers, manufacturing engineering, design engineering, and supply chain. This role will support new product introductions, test process design, part quality issue investigation and resolution, factory transitions, and component qualification. This position will cover electrical and electro-mechanical components with a heavy emphasis on pcba manufacturing, test (ict and functional), quality, and qualification to assure an acceptable part quality.
- own the current pcba test coverage records.
- participate in pcba test strategy design for new products.
- troubleshoot pcba issues to the component level
- develop pcbas for test fixtures that would require (schematic entry, board layout and board manufacture)
- develop and improve ict fixtures and test
- develop and improve pcba functional testing
- develop test code using microsoft visual studio ( c#, visual basic)
- develop basic sql queries
- support python, c and c++ developed on a raspberry pi or equivalent.
- basic understanding of computer architecture to help with developing test software and low level firmware
- work with contract manufacturer to qualify new suppliers and components.
- work closely with the supply base and engineering to identify, document and solve quality problems.
- assure acceptable part quality program at board and pcba suppliers.
- monitor pcba yields and assure pcba process problems are worked.
- assure acceptable broker buy and old date code component quality work is performed.
- ability to understand and approve cost associated with electronic assembly.
- ability to audit pcba operations and factory site surveys.
- familiarity with rework including bga replacement.
- reporting and recordkeeping. Word/xl etc. Clear communications skills.
- occasional travel - approximately twice a year
*required education and experience*:
- excellent written english and spanish and verbal communication skills.
- degree in electrical engineering (or equivalent work experience) and 5+ years relevant experience.
- experience with tier 1 cm pcba manufacturing, test, and dfx.
- general knowledge of smt and through hole soldering. Including equipment, material handling, tooling, thermal profiling, solder materials, etc.
- general understanding of ipc a-610, j-std-001, and j-std-006.
- general knowledge of electrical test including ict and functional. Able to interface with fixture and programming suppliers in the ordering of fixtures and programming for ict and functional.
- general knowledge of device level programming prior to solder insertion.
- general knowledge of electronic component handling and storage to include j-std-020 and j-std-033.
- general knowledge of esd control and mitigation practices.
