Head of marketplace development
role overview
karma and luck is seeking a highly connected and execution-driven head of marketplace development to lead our expansion into major u.s. department stores and global fashion marketplaces. This role is responsible for building, negotiating, launching, and scaling partnerships across premium, mid-tier, and mass retail channels while protecting brand positioning, pricing integrity, and profitability. This is a revenue-driving leadership role with direct p&l responsibility.

core responsibilities
1. marketplace penetration & relationship building
o leverage existing buyer relationships to secure meetings and onboardings.
o negotiate vendor agreements, margin structures, payment terms, and marketing commitments.
o position karma and luck as a differentiated “energy luxury lifestyle” brand.
2. channel strategy & brand positioning
o define assortment strategy per channel:
+ premium assortment for luxury platforms
+ commercial hero skus for mass retail
+ controlled capsule offerings for off-price channels
o protect msrp and prevent brand dilution.
3. p&l & margin management
o own revenue targets for wholesale + marketplace.
o ensure minimum 2.5x–3x markup structure viability.
o monitor chargebacks, returns, co-op fees, and compliance penalties.
4. launch execution
o coordinate internal teams:
+ production
+ logistics
+ edi compliance
+ marketing assets
o oversee onboarding portals (edi, vendor portals, content requirements).
o manage go-live timelines.
5. performance scaling
o analyze sell-through rates and reorder velocity.
o optimize replenishment and assortment depth.
o negotiate better positioning after successful sell-through.
required experience
* 7–15+ years in wholesale / marketplace expansion.
* proven relationships with buyers at major u.s. department stores.
* experience launching brands into luxury e-commerce platforms.
* strong understanding of:
o edi systems
o chargebacks & compliance
o margin negotiations
o co-op marketing structures
o drop-ship vs wholesale models
