the individuals who perform this job provide extraordinary shopping experiences to our guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout.
essential duties and responsibilities
 * know and actively demonstrate, daily, our company mission statement and core values.
 * maintain uniform standard, as detailed in the employee manual, for all worked hours.
 * greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, use our guest services script based on the division in which they serve. For specs locations: offer the 5% discount, ask for the specs key, call the guest by name (if possible), offer additional items, offer the opportunity to give to the charity of the month, and thank the guest for their business.
 * operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed to access upc codes or prices.
 * ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
 * properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
 * suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items, including the charity of the month.
 * monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers so that the accurate amounts are charged to the guest.
 * redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
 * ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction. Never answer the pin pad questions for the guest.
 * if necessary, check acceptable identification, use 36 sign-in, to ensure you make the legal sale. Use best practices and always be professional when checking ids.
 * receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
 * issue receipts and any change due.
 * accurately count change back to the guest.
 * bag or box merchandise and manage bags and bottle protectors as needed.
 * assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
 * compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
 * call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached to maintain proper till balance.
 * keep work area clean and neat and do not overstock counter with merchandise.
 * count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
 * answer questions and provide information to guests.
 * may resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
 * avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
 * avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
 * stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
 * monitor checkout station, ensuring needed tools such as register paper and paper bags are in stock.
 * prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process if needed.
 * carry out directives of management efficiently.
 * fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
 * practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
 * possess time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.
 * ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
 * stand for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally. Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift. Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally. Push or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally. Communicate with and understand team members and guests.

qualifications
education or experience: we prefer cashiering experience, but are willing to teach. A high school diploma or ged is preferred, but experience can also serve as education.
language skills: ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos. Ability to communicate with coworkers and guests. Bilingual skills are a plus.
mathematical skills: ability to perform basic math, including discounts and percentages; calculator available if needed.
demeanor and personal skills: smiley, friendly, helpful; responsible, reliable, and committed to providing extraordinary service; patient, friendly, and outgoing; self-starter with strong work ethic who completes tasks and seeks the next assignment.
hours: full-time typically 35 hours per week; must be available to work any shift on friday or saturday and 80% of all shifts each week. Part-time up to 25 hours per week. Scheduling depends on business needs and requires approval for time off.
reasoning ability: ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
certificates, licenses: must maintain a valid tabc beverage sellers permit; in some cases, a valid food handlers permit. The tabc course takes 2-3 hours to complete. We will pay for time spent in the course up to 3 hours. Course link and login information provided after hiring. Cost deducted from paycheck.
