about the position
as a technical development manager, you will be responsible for providing high‐level technical sales support for ssab special steels within a defined geographical area. You will help customers improve existing applications, develop new solutions, and optimize performance using ssab's premium steel grades. In addition, you will coordinate strategic technical projects, support customer trials, manage claims when needed, and share technical insights internally and externally.
this role is highly collaborative and involves regular travel to meet customers, lead technical discussions, and support development projects.
main responsibilities
* provide technical sales support for special steels in alignment with the sales and marketing plan.
* develop the market by upgrading existing applications or creating new design solutions with customers.
* initiate and coordinate strategic application projects, including customer trials and follow‐up.
* support and educate customers at their facilities; report opportunities, actions, and technical issues.
* audit and support customers participating in ssab programs such as hardox in my body, my inner strenx, and hardox wear parts.
about you
* bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or a related technical field.
* minimum 5 years of experience in product/equipment design, with general knowledge of workshop processes (welding, cutting, forming) and steel.
* strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to support customers and engage with cross‐functional teams.
* high proficiency in ms office (word, excel, powerpoint, outlook) and strong organizational skills.
* able to work independently, manage deadlines under pressure, and deliver excellent customer service.
* strong analytical and problem‐solving abilities; proactive, structured, dependable, and a team‐oriented contributor.
* valid driver's license and willingness to travel at least 50% of the time.
* fluent in english (speaking, writing, and reading) to handle technical customer communication confidently.
