This role involves updating the bill of materials (bom), understanding routing and run times by sub-assembly, and identifying operational inefficiencies. The product costing manager will also develop should-cost estimates for suppliers, considering advantages of scale, vertical integration, efficiency, and sga&p markups. To do this they will need to be familiar with engineering drawings, boms, and spec sheets to develop cost inputs. In addition to costing, the role requires creating make-vs-buy business cases to drive informed business decisions.
