about the role
we are looking for a lead cooling controls & solutions design engineer to join a global team delivering advanced control and automation solutions for data center environments .
this role acts as a technical authority for cooling systems and control design, translating mechanical system requirements into fully integrated control strategies across bms, plc, and scada platforms.
you’ll play a key role in ensuring cooling systems perform reliably under real-world conditions , including load variations, failure scenarios, and live operations.
key responsibilities
- lead the design of cooling control strategie s for data centers (chilled water systems, crah/crac, cooling towers, pumps, valves)
- translate mechanical designs into practical, executable control logic
- define system behavior for normal, partial load, and failure scenarios
- develop sequences of operatio n, including redundancy (n, n+1, 2n) and failover strategies
- design and support control architecture across bms, plc, and scada systems
- ensure integration between cooling systems and power, monitoring, and building systems
- support testing, startup, and system validatio n in real operating environments
- collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and field teams
requirements
- bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, controls engineering, instrumentation, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent practical experience in mission-critical cooling controls may be considered.
- 8–15 years of experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial controls, central utility plants, or complex mechanical infrastructure environments.
- strong hands-on experience with cooling system control strategies, including chilled water systems, crah/crac units, pumps, valves, vfds, cooling towers, dry coolers, economizers, and hydronic distribution.
- experience designing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or operating control systems in bas/bms, plc, or scada environments.
- familiarity with platforms such as niagara, johnson controls, siemens, schneider electric, honeywell, rockwell, siemens plc, or similar systems.
- working knowledge of bacnet, modbus, opc, ethernet/ip, and industrial network integration.
- direct experience supporting commissioning, startup, fat, sat, ist, functional performance testing, and issue resolution in live or mission-critical environments.
- ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical drawings, control schematics, sequences of operation, specifications, and commissioning scripts.
preferred:
- direct experience in data center environments.
- familiarity wi th industrial communication protoc ols (bacnet, modbus, etc.)
- experience integrating cooling systems wi th power and monitoring infrastructure
why this role?
- work on high-impact, mission-critical proj ects
- exposure to global data center prog rams
- remote work with a highly technical, international team
- opportunity to influe nce scalable and standardized engineering solut ions
