position overview
 * provide efficient and safe pickup and delivery of packages and documents while representing the company professionally.
 * operate non-articulated vehicles safely and efficiently, complying with government and corporate procedures.
 * accurately complete selection and inspection of assigned packages, including reporting on stops and errors.
 * seek additional business from existing clients, attempt to acquire new clients (pass leads to sales), and inform sales of significant client activity changes.
 * respond to customer inquiries regarding fedex service strategies and keep customers informed about the company and its services.
 * ensure packages meet fedex service standards, are correctly labeled, and paperwork is complete, clean, and accurate.
 * determine package legality, including special requirements for hazardous materials and international shipments, and separate packages by service type and destination as per procedures.
 * scan packages according to prescribed procedures, demonstrating efficiency in handling service and equipment.
 * ensure customers have the appropriate fedex shipping materials.
 * meet aircraft timing schedules and transport packages as required by operational sorting.
 * load and unload aircraft, containers, and company vehicles, and operate mechanized ramp equipment for loading and unloading packages.
 * clean, wash, and perform minor maintenance on company vehicles as needed, maintaining a clean personal appearance.
 * perform other assigned activities as required.
note
employees in this position do not have regular routes; they provide coverage for open routes during absences of the normally assigned courier. Employees regularly assigned different routes during the workweek are not classified as courier/swing driver.
minimum requirements
education: high school diploma or equivalent.
experience: four (4) years as a courier; must have a valid license for the assigned vehicle type and no preventable accidents in the past two (2) years.
minimum skills needed
 * demonstrated multi-route knowledge
 * ability to handle packages over 75 pounds with appropriate equipment or assistance
 * good interpersonal and verbal communication skills
 * deep knowledge of the station's service area (preferred)
 * certification for hazardous materials (if required), and passing all basic/recurrent exams and training to remain qualified
