The product engineer will support the successful development, launch, and continuous improvement of hpdc products and processes. This position ensures product manufacturability, quality performance, and alignment with customer requirements by leading engineering activities across product development, tooling, validation, and change management.
main responsibilities
* perform feasibility analysis of cad models and drawings in collaboration with cad/cae teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with hpdc process constraints.
* lead technical reviews with customers to present feasibility findings, risks, and proposed engineering solutions.
* support prototype development through each stage of the launch, ensuring deliverables meet dimensional, metallurgical, and visual quality specifications.
* develop and execute product and process validation tests, including process proving for hpdc parameters such as pressure profiles, fill time, and thermal balance.
* participate in new program launches, ensuring compliance with nemak’s npds (new product development system) milestones and deliverables.
* lead root-cause analysis and improvement activities for imperfections, dimensional, or metallurgical issues originating from the hpdc process.
* collaborate with tooling engineering to develop, validate, and optimize production tooling, integrating lessons learned from prior programs.
* develop and maintain quality core tools documentation, including pfmea, process flow, control plans and process book ensuring proper identification of potential failure modes and effective control strategies.
* manage engineering change points through plm systems, ensuring proper tracking, documentation, version control, and communication with stakeholders.
* analyze simulation results (filling & solidification) and incorporate insights into design feasibility, tooling layouts, and parameter definition.
* interface with customers throughout the program to report progress, quality indicators, risks, and engineering changes.
* capture and implement lessons learned to improve future product and process development cycles, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
position requirements
* bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials, or related engineering field; master’s preferred.
* 4+ years of experience in manufacturing or product development, ideally in high pressure die casting (hpdc).
* strong technical knowledge of hpdc processes, tooling, and product development.
* experience with pfmea, control plans, and automotive quality management systems (apqp/ppap).
* hands-on experience with process validation, parameter analysis, and engineering change management (plm).
* strong problem‑solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
