Meztal is seeking a highly experienced and hands-on controller to support one of our u.s.-based clients within the senior housing / real estate industry.
this role is responsible for overseeing the full accounting function across multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient financial operations aligned with u.s. Gaap.
the ideal candidate is a strong leader who can both manage a team and remain actively involved in day-to-day accounting activities when needed. This position requires advanced english communication, as you will be working closely with u.s.-based stakeholders.
key responsibilities
financial reporting & close
* oversee and manage month-end close processes across multiple entities.
* review and ensure accuracy of financial statements in compliance with u.s. Gaap.
* analyze financial performance, including revenue vs. cash and cash flow trends.
* maintain and review schedules such as accruals, prepaids, and capex.
accounting operations oversight
* oversee ap, ar, general ledger, treasury, and payroll functions.
* review intercompany accounts (due to / due from).
* approve invoices, payments, and weekly ap proposals.
* ensure consistency and accuracy of accounting processes across entities.
hands-on accounting involvement
* support accounting operations directly when needed (close, reconciliations, issue resolution).
* troubleshoot discrepancies and ensure data accuracy across systems.
* maintain strong involvement in day-to-day accounting workflows.
* use advanced excel to analyze data, generate reports, and improve processes.
leadership & team management
* lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
* provide oversight and guidance to accounting managers and team members.
* foster accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
* participate in leadership and cross-functional meetings.
controls, compliance & external reporting
* maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies.
* ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and u.s. Gaap.
* support external audits and coordinate with auditors and lenders.
* oversee tax-related processes and compliance.
strategic & cross-functional support
* partner with the vp of accounting on strategic initiatives.
* support budgeting and forecasting processes.
* collaborate with operations and other teams to provide financial insights.
* lead process improvement and automation initiatives.
requirements
qualifications (non-negotiable requirements)
* bachelor’s degree in accounting (required).
* 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
* strong knowledge of u.s. Gaap and financial reporting.
* industry experience in senior housing or real estate (required).
* hands-on experience with yardi (required).
* advanced english (mandatory – daily communication with u.s. teams).
* strong experience managing multi-entity or multi-location operations.
* advanced excel skills (pivot tables, vlookup, data analysis).
* proven ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
* strong leadership, analytical, and organizational skills.
