Capital Adequacy & Country Vulnerabilities Senior Associate
Overview

The Senior Associate will support country vulnerability analysis, including country risk indicators, and their implications in the Bank’s loan portfolio and capital adequacy metrics, and the implementation of financial models to assess capital requirements. The ideal candidate will quickly understand the institution’s loan book and the implications of changes in capital adequacy assessment and lending forecasts. The role requires advanced knowledge in finance and macroeconomic dynamics that can impact sovereign creditworthiness, financial markets, and instruments, and a good understanding of financial modeling.
What you’ll do
Support macroeconomic analysis and financial oversight, including monitoring economic indicators, fiscal policies, debt levels, political stability, CDS, EMBI, and other relevant indicators of countries in the Bank’s portfolio.
Manage databases and perform data analytics, creating and/or enhancing analytical tools to improve country vulnerability assessments and their implications on the Bank’s operations.
Support development of potential future scenarios based on current data and trends.
Assess how different disbursement profiles might impact capital adequacy metrics.
Monitor and report on disbursement delays to optimize the portfolio and reduce unnecessary capital consumption.
Support senior analysts in managing analytics for economic capital.
Support the assessment of proposals for economic capital treatment of new credit instruments and risk transfer initiatives.
Participate in drafting presentations and reports to senior management.
What you’ll need
Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Finance, Economics, or related quantitative field. CFA Charter is desirable.
Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in financial modeling for banks, capital adequacy, or related field.
Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
Key skills
Analytical skills with attention to detail and a focus on data and modeling.
Proficiency in sovereign credit metrics and debt sustainability.
Understanding of financial models for banking institutions.
Understanding of Basel regulations, ESG factors, and international economic frameworks.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access (including macros and VBA).
Knowledge of Tableau, SQL, Bloomberg, and PowerBI is desirable.
Excellent writing and communication skills.

Requirements
Citizenship: You are a national of one of the listed countries and reside or plan to reside there.
Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity or second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

The position can be based in Argentina, Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, and Uruguay.
Type of contract and duration
Staff: National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
