job overview
we are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced accountant to join our mexico finance team. The role will be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle for multiple entities, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations, supporting payroll processes, and contributing to tax planning and reporting. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, proficiency in local financial software, and the ability to work in a dynamic, multi-entity environment.
key responsibilities:
financial & tax accounting
* manage monthly bookkeeping for 4 companies, including preparation of financial statements and monthly tax filings
* handle input vat, import customs declarations, and output vat reconciliation
* support annual income tax returns, audit reports, and tax assessments
* prepare and process export vat refunds as applicable
payroll & social security
* oversee employer registration for approximately 13 projects
* calculate and process payroll for:
* 560+ blue-collar workers (weekly payroll: 4–5 cycles/month)
* 50+ local and chinese management staff (bi-weekly payroll: 2 cycles/month)
* manage imss (mexican social security) contributions and year-end calculations (aguinaldo, profit sharing, etc.)
compliance & reporting
* ensure compliance with local tax laws and accounting standards
* maintain accurate records of invoices, customs documents, and project-related financial data
* support internal and external audit processes
* assist with tax planning and fiscal strategy development
tools & systems
* proficient use of contpaqi and aspel-coi financial software
* strong excel skills for reporting and data analysis
qualifications & requirements:
experience
* 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in multi-entity or project-based environments
* experience in the construction or engineering industry is a strong plus
* hands-on experience with payroll processing, imss, and tax filings
* familiarity with import/export documentation and vat reconciliation is preferred
language
* professional proficiency in english (reading, writing, and speaking) is required
* ability to communicate with chinese management is a plus, but not mandatory
skills & competencies
* strong knowledge of mexican tax law and accounting standards
* detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple deadlines
* problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently
* team player with good communication skills
certification
* mexican public accountant certification (cédula profesional) is a strong plus
other requirements
* valid driver's license and access to a vehicle (preferred, due to occasional travel)
* willingness to travel to project sites in monterrey, slp, querétaro, san miguel de allende, etc. (frequency depends on new project needs)
* residing within commuting distance to the monterrey office is a plus
