The metallurgical technician is responsible for inspecting material that comes from the process and validates approvals through data. The metallurgical technician is responsible for analyzing, supporting the validation of ppas and special analyses, metallurgical reports that are requested. The metallurgical technician is responsible for adjusting inspection equipment and verification of destructive and non destructive testing (ultrasound, eddy current, bent test, x rays, penetrating liquids, duromet er, micro hardness, to keep the database updated in accordance with its releases and its corresponding data. Responsibilities provide quality support and guidance on all equipment installs, runoffs, ppap’s, and start of production ramp up. Including msa’s calibrated equipment’s, process control plans, etc. Prepare metallurgical reports. Support the setup of site gaging and inspection labs. Develop site quality documentation and supporting certifications. Provide technical quality support to both internal customers and suppliers as needed. Administer laboratory equipment, measurement instruments, and proper order and 5s in the metallurgical laboratory. Participate in production improvement meetings to provide a support function. Manage the metallurgical laboratory equipment and calibration services within the laboratory scope. Audit production lines to verify instruments within calibration period. Receive and send equipment to external calibration services, help develop and maintain the calibration annual plan. Comply with the annual layout program and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Interpret drawings and technical documents of customers. Verify pieces used in setup and change over. Administrate and review documents and reports of external activities. Qualifications engineer metallurgical or materials degree from an accredited institution. Great communication skills. Good analytical and problem solving skills. Knowledge of metallurgical process control methodology. Ability to effectively use powerpoint, excel, office. Experience in metallurgical laboratory settings. Experience with measurement equipment and hardness testing. Knowledge of geometrical tolerance and critical characteristics. Knowledge of microstructures and micro/macro hardness. Knowledge of the use of reactive chemicals and heat treatments. Knowledge in manufacturing processes, assembly processes, equipment technology, and equipment capability. Prior experience working in a manufacturing industry. Prior experience with iatf, iso 9001:2015. Prior experience with quality core tools (apqp, msa, pfmea, ppap, spc). Prior experience with statistical software (e.g., minitab). Knowledge of process control methodologies and measurement techniques relevant to metallurgical testing.
