job description:
this role is responsible for establishing a high-volume machining department, including equipment, personnel, and processes. The ideal candidate has a manufacturing management background in machining, strong leadership skills, and experience managing complex projects internally and with partners. They should be eager to learn about new products, manufacturing processes, and technologies, and focus on optimizing operations.
responsibilities include implementing and improving departmental processes annually, managing budgets, capacity planning, strategic planning, hiring decisions, and department leadership.
duties and responsibilities
* support the plant's vision, mission, goals, and objectives.
* create and develop the manufacturing machining department.
* ensure timely, profitable production to meet demand.
* plan, coordinate, and oversee department operations.
* develop manufacturing objectives, schedules, procedures, and methods.
* train, develop, and coach staff, monitoring performance.
* enforce plant policies and procedures.
* optimize manpower, machinery, and material utilization.
* coordinate with other managers and corporate teams.
* maintain a strong 6s culture and department appearance.
* provide technical advice to improve productivity.
* implement and manage manufacturing principles through employee involvement.
* foster problem-solving, goal setting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* manage department budgets and meet financial goals.
* report progress and issues to plant management.
* ensure compliance with company policies, including kanban, materials, and inventory management.
education and experience requirements:
* mechanical engineering degree preferred.
* at least 5 years of manufacturing experience in machining, with 2+ years as a manager.
* knowledge of cnc machining and quality control.
* understanding of gd&t for manufacturability and inspection.
* strong leadership, management, and communication skills.
* broad mechanical knowledge of manufacturing processes.

* primarily indoor work, sometimes outdoors, with noise and potential hazards.
