role overview
the integrated solutions well engineer plays a critical role in delivering engineering excellence across the full well lifecycle. This role ensures that all engineering activities are aligned with baker hughes’ integrated solutions management system, regulatory standards, and customer requirements.
the well engineer contributes from early concept and tendering phases through execution and project close-out, providing technical expertise, operational support, and continuous improvement insights. By working closely with stakeholders across engineering, operations, hse, commercial, and service delivery, the engineer ensures safe operations, well integrity, and optimized performance.
responsibilities
as an integrated solutions well engineer, you will be responsible for:
* preparing well designs, technical requirements, and operational plans to meet both customer and baker hughes objectives
* supporting tendering activities by contributing engineering input and collaborating with commercial and procurement teams
* developing detailed well programs and procedures for drilling, completion, intervention, and abandonment operations
* defining technical service requirements and coordinating third‑party services
* preparing cost estimates, time forecasts, and project schedules
* building risk registers and contingency plans in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
* participating in peer reviews, quality assurance processes, and technical evaluations
* monitoring daily operational progress and tracking project expenditures
* driving hse compliance by ensuring all activities align with company policies and safe work practices
* engaging with customers and stakeholders through technical discussions, presentations, and operational updates
* tracking performance kpis and benchmarking against offset data and defined objectives
* supporting root cause analysis (rca) investigations and implementing corrective actions
* preparing technical documentation including end of well reports, lessons learned, and performance summaries
* ensuring proper data management in line with integrated solutions procedures
* promoting continuous improvement through adoption of best practices and emerging technologies
specific responsibilities
the well engineer – drilling is responsible for all engineering activities related to well construction projects, with strong focus on:
* well design and trajectory planning
* casing design and casing program development
* rig selection and drilling methodology optimization
qualifications
to be successful in this role you will:
* hold a bachelor’s degree in petroleum, mechanical, or chemical engineering (master’s degree in oil & gas or well engineering preferred)
* have at least 5 years of experience in well construction, completions, intervention, or optimization
* demonstrate experience in areas such as bha design, drill bits selection, simulations, field operations, or well program development
* possess strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities with the ability to work under uncertainty
* show excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly
* be proficient in ms office, power bi, and well engineering software (e.g., hydraulics, torque & drag, casing design tools)
* demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across functions and cultures
desired characteristics
* experience with conventional, horizontal, multilateral, or unconventional wells
* knowledge of drilling practices such as pad drilling and advanced well architectures
* well control awareness
* basic knowledge of geomechanics
