At the time that an offer of assignment is made, proper salary placement is contingent upon receipt of official (sealed) transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluations (if applicable). Instructors with advanced coursework shall be placed on the appropriate class and step on the adjunct college salary schedules, effective the first month following receipt (in people, culture, and technology services) of the official transcripts. Initial salary placement will be at the first class/step until official transcripts have been submitted.

the position
note: the san diego community college district accepts applications for adjunct (part-time/substitute) positions for our three college campuses and various continuing education centers on a continuous basis. Applicants that meet the minimum qualifications will be retained in the adjunct pool for possible assignments in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters of the academic year.
Major responsibilities

primary duties of adjunct faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching; the assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department.
Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
Teach all scheduled classes.
Maintain accurate records.
Provide quality instruction, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues.

Minimum qualifications

master’s degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology or exercise or adaptive physical education; or
bachelor’s degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology or exercise or adaptive physical education; and
master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy; or
fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in adapted physical education.
Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.

Desired qualifications
applicants who do not possess the exact required degrees or who anticipate receiving the required degree prior to the start of teaching classes are encouraged to complete the request for equivalency form and attach it during the application process.
Licenses/certificates/credentials
california community college instructor credential in physical education (valid for life).

Conditions of employment

submit official college transcripts as stated on application (even if a degree is not a requirement for this position).
Provide a certificate of tuberculosis exam for initial appointment (note: the certificate must be renewed every 4 years as a condition of continuing employment).
Have fingerprints taken by a live scan computer at the district’s expense (clearance must be received prior to first day of employment).
Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the united states.

Additional information: an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the chancellor.
