education & experience
* bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, or related technical field
* 8+ years of experience in electroplating or surface finishing operations
* professional engineer (pe) license preferred
* advanced degree (ms/phd) in relevant field is a plus
technical skills
* deep understanding of electrochemical principles and plating chemistry
* experience with wastewater treatment technologies (chemical precipitation, ion exchange, membrane processes)
* proficiency in process simulation software and statistical analysis tools
* knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements
* experience with automated plating systems and process control
leadership & communication
* proven ability to lead technical teams and cross-functional projects
* strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
* excellent written and verbal communication skills
preferred qualifications
o experience with iso 14001 environmental management systems
o knowledge of six sigma or lean manufacturing methodologies
o familiarity with rcra and tsca regulations

equipment selection & engineering
o evaluate, specify, and select electroplating equipment including rectifiers, filtration systems, plating tanks, and automation components
o conduct feasibility studies for new plating technologies and equipment upgrades
o collaborate with vendors to define technical specifications and performance requirements
o lead equipment installation, commissioning, and validation activities
o develop equipment maintenance programs and troubleshooting procedures
process optimization
o design and optimize electroplating processes for improved quality, efficiency, and throughput
o conduct statistical process control (spc) analysis and design of experiments (doe) to identify process improvements
o develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and control plans
o implement advanced process control strategies and monitoring systems
o troubleshoot complex plating defects and implement corrective actions
wastewater treatment & environmental compliance
o design and optimize wastewater treatment systems for plating operations
o ensure compliance with environmental regulations (epa, local discharge permits)
o implement waste minimization and pollution prevention strategies
o monitor and analyze wastewater chemistry and treatment system performance
o develop emergency response procedures for environmental incidents
