Trade compliance coordinator role
this is a specialized trade compliance position that will oversee and ensure compliance with all relevant trade regulations, including immex and usmca programs.
the role involves supporting the import/export process, assisting in customs planning, and handling the intricacies of these programs to optimize operational efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
key responsibilities:
* prepare and file necessary documentation for immex program activities, including customs declarations, invoices, and certificates of origin.
* verify imports and exports under the immex program are processed and cleared in accordance with customs regulations.
* support day-to-day compliance with immex program requirements, including inventory control, reporting, and reconciliation of temporary imports.
* evaluate and improve immex processes and practices to ensure they are efficient, cost-effective, and fully compliant with trade laws.
* identify opportunities for optimizing duty savings and other benefits available under the program.
* accurately classify products and perform regular reviews of hs classifications to ensure accuracy.
* maintain a global parts database.
* analyze supplier documentation and product details to assess country of origin.
* develop strategies to automate or streamline country of origin assignment processes while maintaining full compliance with trade laws.
* analyze and verify product eligibility under the usmca.
* collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper understanding and implementation of usmca rules of origin.
* conduct pedimento audits to verify compliance with all import/export transactions.
* respond to broker requests and support review of performance against kpis.
* create and manage export paperwork required for shipments.
* maintain accurate and organized records of all trade compliance activities and documentation.
required skills and qualifications
this role requires a strong background in supply chain management, logistics, and international trade regulations. The ideal candidate will have:
* a bachelor's degree in supply chain management or logistics.
* experience working with customs procedures, rules of origin, tariffs, and international trade regulations.
* knowledge of hts classification and general rules of interpretation (gri).
* experience with usmca and knowledge of rules of origin and qualification requirements.
* thorough understanding of import/exports regulations and compliance standards.
