as part of the aws controls team, you will work with highly motivated experts and innovators in the data center industry. You will be responsible for innovating, deploying, optimizing, and maintaining automation systems within data centers, including building management systems (bms) and electrical power monitoring systems (epms). Using amazon leadership principles, you will develop new processes and standards while innovating in the controls space.
the ideal candidate will have a background in construction management, mechanical, electrical, or technology fields, enabling them to handle sophisticated controls platforms and strategically align building controls and automation with broader business objectives.
as a controls engineer, you will:
* manage scope of building management system (bms) and electrical power monitoring system (epms) for aws data center construction.
* ensure data center controls are deployed according to scope of work (sow) and specifications.
* review and provide feedback on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (mep) drawings.
* develop controls bill of material (bom).
* manage multiple stakeholder deliverables, requirements, and navigate challenging situations.
* work under tight project timelines.
* manage finances for construction and service contracts.
* act as a project sponsor/lead.
* manage vendor relationships.
* develop scope of work for site improvement projects.
* provide technical support during the data center lifecycle.
* perform controls root cause analysis for aws data center controls services.
* schedule and supervise quarterly maintenance for bms and epms.
* review controls sequence of operation and provide feedback on design.
* participate in a global on-call schedule.
* enhance technical skills across various automation platforms.
* develop building automation controls drawings and wiring diagrams.
* size controls valves and damper actuators, select controls devices.
* develop and modify control logic programming and graphical user interfaces.
basic qualifications:
* b.s./b.a. in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology, hvac, or related field, or 6+ years of relevant experience.
* 4+ years of project coordination experience with multiple teams or vendors.
* 2+ years designing, configuring, programming, installing, or servicing automation products (e.g., siemens, honeywell, schneider electric, rockwell, tridium, eaton, abb, johnson controls).
* valid driver’s license.
* strong communication skills.
* willingness to travel domestically and internationally at least 25% of the time.
preferred qualifications:
* m.s. in an engineering discipline or 10+ years related experience.
* 6+ years in design programming, startup, or commissioning.
* 4+ years in project management.
* experience with data center controls or critical facilities.
* networking administration skills.
* experience with protocols like mqtt, bacnet, modbus.
* familiarity with systems like siemens, eaton, tridium, distech, struxureware, apc, ignition, abb.
* project management professional (pmp) certification.
* proficiency with microsoft office and project management software.
* excellent documentation and communication skills.
