Our mission
span is enabling electrification for all
span is mission-driven to design, build, and deploy products that electrify our built environment, decarbonize our world, and slow the effects of climate change.
● decarbonization is the process to reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions, especially carbon dioxide, from entering our atmosphere.
● electrification is the process of replacing fossil fuel appliances that run on gas or oil with all-electric upgrades for a cleaner way to power our lives.
at span, we believe in:
● enabling homes and vehicles powered by clean energy
● making electrification upgrades possible
● building more resilient homes with reliable backup
● designing a flexible and distributed electrical grid
the role
we are seeking a driven and experienced manufacturing test engineer to support span’s manufacturing test infrastructure from low- to high-volume production at our contract manufacturing site. This role will be integral in supporting span’s mission by ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards while helping us rapidly ramp up production to meet growing demand.
this position will report directly to our director of manufacturing engineering and be an integral part of the scm organization (supply chain & manufacturing).
in this position, you will be responsible for: ● lead the investigation and resolution of yield issues during prototype and production builds.
● collaborate with manufacturing test engineering to define, implement, and optimize test strategies, including the qualification of test fixtures, equipment, and software at contract manufacturers (cm).
● analyze test data to identify trends and initiate corrective actions to enhance test processes and product quality.
● deploy and provide hands-on training for test stations during prototype builds at cm sites, ensuring smooth transitions to high-volume manufacturing.
● develop comprehensive test station procedures, preventive maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides for on-site production and cms.
● maintain detailed testing logs and develop a comprehensive library of error codes, including troubleshooting logic for efficient issue resolution.
● generate controlled test instructions for technicians in manufacturing execution systems (mes) or other test execution platforms.
● establish and execute gauge r&r (gr&r) and station audit plans to ensure optimal station health.
● collaborate with manufacturing and software teams to integrate test stations into the overall manufacturing process and internal test frameworks.
● participate in board bring-up, validation, and debugging support, creating hardware debug guides for cms.
● lead failure analysis, root cause investigation, and implement corrective actions to resolve manufacturing defects.
● drive continuous process improvement initiatives to optimize test yields, throughput, and overall cm performance.
● scale and support manufacturing/service test lines, ensuring operational excellence throughout the production lifecycle.
● partner with hardware quality and manufacturing test teams to deploy new test capabilities and provide cm training.
about you required qualifications
● bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, information systems, or equivalent field.
● 6+ years of experience in test engineering, preferably in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
● strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solid foundation in test engineering principles.
● proven experience in deploying functional test infrastructure for pcbas and full products.
● proficiency with test software (e.g., python), databases, and database management.
● skilled in using lab equipment (e.g., high-speed oscilloscopes) and hardware troubleshooting.
● excellent project management skills, with strong written and verbal communication abilities. Bonus qualifications
● advanced proficiency in python for automation and scripting.
● experience creating or managing data visualization tools and dashboards (e.g., tableau, powerbi).
● familiarity with working with contract manufacturers and scaling test processes across sites.
● knowledge of industrial safety standards (e.g., ul 508, osha).
● experience in a cross-disciplinary, multi-cultural environment, demonstrating effective collaboration and leadership skills
