Overview
the department of physical oceanography at cicese (ensenada, baja california) is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to work on transport and dispersion problems in the coastal ocean. The ideal candidate is expected to hold a ph.d. in physical oceanography or a closely related field, and have a solid understanding of coastal ocean circulation physics. While the position is based in ensenada, the research is part of a large observational program with collaborators at numerous u.s. Institutions including the university of california santa barbara and woods hole oceanographic institution.
responsibilities
* participate in all aspects of the field program including preparation, data collection, and data analysis.
* synthesize results, formulate conclusions, and present the work at international scientific meetings and in scientific publications.
qualifications
* ph.d. in physical oceanography or a closely related field.
* solid understanding of coastal ocean circulation physics.
* preference for candidates with experience collecting and analyzing tracer data (drifters and dye).
* ability to generate data analysis codes using matlab, fortran, and python.
* clear communication in english (oral and written).

the position is based at cicese (ensenada, baja california). The initial appointment is roughly 1.5 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 3 additional years depending on continued funding.
