the multi‑asset index management team manages a diverse range of high‑profile indices across various asset classes including equities, fixed income, commodities and derivatives.
responsibilities and impact
the index manager is responsible for overseeing a wide array of indices and serving as a backup for other managers within the department. The role requires a thorough knowledge of the entire product line to ensure seamless support and continuity of operations.
key responsibilities include:
* preparing and calculating s&p and dow jones branded indices, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of real‑time and end‑of‑day index data to clients and end users;
* performing analytical research to determine the composition of assigned indices, interpreting complex index methodologies and adjusting data in calculation systems to conform to index rules;
* performing index rebalancings by interpreting methodology, running models and research for adds/drops, implementing changes and communicating them to clients with a focus on quality and accuracy;
* serving on index committees and presenting non‑routine analysis to support the indices the manager is responsible for;
* managing high‑profile indices as an industry expert, maintaining key relationships with other groups within the department and across other departments (product management, client coverage, index services, it support);
* co‑ordinating with technology and production support groups to enhance system capabilities;
* managing multiple projects and deadlines, including requirements gathering, analytical thinking, and documentation compilation;
* learning new technologies and platforms, and training new and existing employees on best practices for index management.
what we're looking for
basic qualifications
* bachelor's degree;
* 1‑3 years of relevant experience;
* understanding of global financial markets;
* strong programming skills, preferably in python or a similar language (e.g., vba, r);
* ability to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction;
* experience working with large data sets using excel or sql;
* excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original non‑routine problems in a timely and insightful manner;
* superior computer skills in excel, word, and related applications.
preferred qualifications
* advanced degree in business, math, economics or finance (strongly preferred);
* ability to assume responsibility, work with others and manage projects;
* excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to coordinate work done by multiple people or groups;
* experience with futures and/or options;
* strong understanding of how indices are used, the impact of different methodologies and the construction of non‑equity indices;
* ability to learn s&p's proprietary index calculation engines;
* knowledge of vendor terminals and vendors' data and analytical platforms.
