job summary
we are seeking a skilled electrical test engineer responsible for the validation, testing, and certification of commercial chiller systems. This role involves evaluating electrical designs, executing test procedures, analyzing performance data, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, quality, and laboratory teams to ensure system performance, safety, and reliability.
key responsibilities
* maintain and ensure operational readiness of electrical systems used for hvac testing, including water-cooled and air-cooled chillers
* plan and execute electrical testing for commercial chiller systems
* troubleshoot electrical systems, including control circuits and low-voltage wiring
* develop and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and test procedures
* configure and validate instrumentation for measuring voltage, current, power, and harmonics
* diagnose and resolve electrical, control, and communication issues during testing
* analyze test data and prepare detailed technical reports with findings and recommendations
* support compliance and certification testing per applicable standards (ul, iec, ahri, ashrae)
* collaborate with design and engineering teams to identify root causes and implement improvements
* participate in factory acceptance testing (fat), qualification, and reliability testing
* ensure adherence to all laboratory and electrical safety standards
* provide technical support during audits, certifications, and customer witness testing
required qualifications
* bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline
* 5–7 years of experience in electrical testing, validation, or product development (preferably hvac or industrial equipment)
* strong knowledge of three-phase power systems, motor drives, starters, and vfds
* hands-on experience with electrical test equipment such as power analyzers, oscilloscopes, and daq systems
* understanding of plcs, sensors, and industrial communication protocols (modbus, bacnet, can)
* ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
* strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
* experience in technical documentation and reporting
* familiarity with electrical codes and safety standards (nfpa 70 / nec)
preferred qualifications
* experience with commercial chillers or large hvac/refrigeration systems
* knowledge of standards such as ashrae 90.1, ahri 550/590, ul 1995, iec 60335
* experience working in a testing laboratory environment
* familiarity with energy efficiency testing and certification processes
* experience with tools such as labview, matlab, or python
* professional engineer (pe) license or eit certification
