your role
we are looking for an experienced head of sound to lead all sound operations for ludo, one of our signature live entertainment productions. Reporting to the technical director and working closely with the artistic director and band leader, this role is responsible for overseeing the sound team, equipment, and technical execution to ensure exceptional audio quality, operational efficiency, and a safe working environment throughout rehearsals and performances.
key responsibilities
* oversee and manage all sound department operations during set-ups, rehearsals, and live performances.
* act as lead sound desk operator during rehearsals and performances.
* collaborate closely with the artistic director, technical director, band leader, and other technical departments to ensure seamless show execution.
* supervise, train, and lead the sound team, ensuring compliance with local and international safety standards and best practices.
* develop and maintain training and succession plans to guarantee continuity of sound operations throughout the production run.
* inspect, maintain, and document all sound equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
* manage inventory systems and internal tools to track equipment, inspections, and maintenance records.
* coordinate procurement of new or replacement sound equipment in accordance with company policies.
* support the technical director in hiring sound technicians, managing departmental budgets, and forecasting expenditures.
* perform additional related duties as required to support the success of the production.
ideal candidate profile
education
- technical degree, college, or university studies in live entertainment, theatre production, audio engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
experience
* minimum 5 years of experience in the entertainment or live performance industry.
* at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
* proven experience working in live performance environments with bands and acrobatic performers.
technical knowledge & skills
* advanced knowledge of sound mixing techniques and professional audio equipment for live shows.
* strong expertise in audio networking principles, wireless systems, and complex troubleshooting.
* experience with video monitoring and communication systems.
* general understanding of musical instruments, both electronic and acoustic.
* solid understanding of stage safety regulations and safe work practices
* comfortable using microsoft office applications and internal inventory systems.
* ability to work at heights, handle physically demanding tasks, and perform under pressure in dynamic environments.
* intermediate to advanced english is required; spanish proficiency is expected.
