about the university or research institute

the instituto de micro y nanotecnología (imn-cnm, csic) is one of spain’s leading research centers, affiliated with the spanish national research council (csic). Located in madrid, the imn-cnm is renowned for its pioneering work in micro- and nanotechnology, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration. The institute brings together experts in biology, engineering, and physical sciences to address complex challenges at the intersection of technology and health. With its modern laboratories, international outlook, and commitment to translational science, imn-cnm offers an ideal environment for ambitious researchers aiming to make a difference in biomedicine.

research topic and significance

the core focus of this postdoctoral position is the study of extracellular vesicle (ev) secretion and their therapeutic potential in stem cells and cerebral organoids, particularly under electrical modulation. This research is integral to national projects that push the boundaries of regenerative biomedicine by leveraging bioelectrical stimulation. Understanding how electrical cues influence stem cell behavior and ev biogenesis could unlock new strategies for tissue repair, neuroregeneration, and the treatment of degenerative diseases. The integration of bioelectrical approaches with stem cell technology has the potential to revolutionize personalized medicine and accelerate the translation of basic science into clinical therapies.

project details

you will join the es4term lab, a multidisciplinary group at imn-csic with a strong track record in bioelectrical stimulation, including patented devices and innovative procedures. The lab’s mission combines fundamental research with translational and entrepreneurial objectives, aiming to bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and real-world applications. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will:

* lead mechanistic studies on human mesenchymal stem cells and ipsc-derived cerebral organoids under electromodulation.
* investigate ev biogenesis, therapeutic cargo enrichment, and the effects of bioelectrical modulation in both 2d and 3d stem cell cultures.
* collaborate with a dynamic team of scientists dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine through interdisciplinary approaches.

candidate profile

this position is suited for highly motivated postdoctoral candidates with:

* demonstrated expertise in stem cell culture and manipulation.
* experience with extracellular vesicle isolation and characterization.
* proficiency in live calcium imaging and activity measurements in stem cells or organoids.
* (preferred) prior work with cerebral organoid models.
* strong background in molecular and biological assays relevant to stem cells and evs.
* a collaborative mindset, scientific curiosity, and a drive to contribute to both basic and translational research.

application process

the position is available from october 2025, with an initial duration of 1 year and the possibility of extension to 2 years. The salary is at the m3 level. The application process is as follows:

* curriculum vitae (cv)
* cover letter detailing research interests and fit for the role
* contact information for 2 references
