Descriptionthis position supports achievement of material cost objectives over the lifecycle of the vehicle line. Working together with the vehicle program director, chief program engineer, and finance, engineering, and supply chain activities, the position leads a team of 3 to 4 people to achieve and maintain world class material cost across the "lifeycle" of the nameplate across multiple model years. Applicants must be experienced in automotive product development, working in teams, and comfort with large sets of data.applicants should have a foundation an understanding of ford's global product development system (gpds), program timing deliverables, and to be a vocal advocate for cost efficiency opportunities.responsibilitiesadvocate cost culture within the company, with emphasis on the three rules of efficient costs: don't over content (the vehicle), don't over design (the content), and don't overpay (for the design)leverage multiple sources of data to generate or investigate don't over design, don't over content, or don't overpay opportunitiesprepare for and support workshops (known as cost loops) to develop a bottom-up cost status by commodity for each cost control modeldisposition material cost opportunities coming from cost loop workshops with the teams of four (to4) – engineer, buyer, cost estimator, and finance analystcreate ad-hoc what-if cost studies to support strategic and tactical decision-makingattend and support program forums such as the program steering team (pst), chief program engineering decision forum (cpe df), and finance program activity team (pat) to represent the material cost attributeleverage global total cost's skill team departments: benchmarking & cost attack, global vendor tooling, global cost estimating, material cost data architecture, and indirect engineering.qualificationscandidate should:have oem or tier 1+ automotive experience understand and has experience with ford's global product development system (gpds) or equivalent large project workplanshave experience conducting value analysis / value engineering (va/ve) projects, or presenting va/ve opportunities to teams for the purpose of adopting the changebe able interpret a financial income and expense statement.be proficient with microsoft office applications (especially microsoft excel) and is comfortable with data visualization tools such as qliksense.be organizedhave project management experiencecommunicate clearly and effectivelybe comfortable operating in a physically separate location from their direct supervisor and direct reportseducation:bachelor's degree in engineering or a science disciplineexperience:7+ years' experience in automotive product development.work requirements:the position is classified as hybrid but in-office work several days per week is mandatory.the position is located at the global technology and business center (gtbc) in mexico.
