the positon
summary:
the engineering manager is responsible for leading the manufacturing engineering function to support daily production execution, new product industrialization (npi), process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives within a high-speed cable manufacturing environment.
key responsibilities:
leadership and team management
* lead, develop, and manage the engineering team (process engineers, industrial engineers, npi engineers, engineering technicians).
* establish clear priorities, assign workload, track results, and ensure achievement of department objectives.
* drive a culture of operational discipline, sense of urgency, continuous improvement, and accountability.
manufacturing process ownership and control
* be accountable for the performance of manufacturing processes for high-speed cable production.
* ensure process standardization, stability, and capability to meet quality and productivity requirements.
* develop and maintain critical documentation including work instructions, process sheets, manufacturing routings, critical parameters, layouts, and process specifications.
new product industrialization and launch (npi)
* lead execution of npi projects, ensuring successful product launches from prototype builds through full production ramp-up.
* coordinate with the business and corporate product development engineering team for planning and execution of new product launches.
* coordinate development and implementation of tooling, fixtures, equipment, and validations required for production start-up.
* ensure on-time completion of key deliverables such as pfmea, control plan, process flow, work instructions, and internal validations.
quality and problem solving
* support the quality team in investigating and resolving issues related to internal defects, scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
* implement permanent corrective actions, ensuring verification, effectiveness, and long-term sustainability.
* drive continuous improvement of key metrics such as fpy, yield, scrap, and recurring defect trends.
continuous improvement and cost reduction
* identify and implement productivity improvements using lean manufacturing tools (kaizen, smed, vsm, line balancing, waste elimination).
* reduce cycle time, downtime, and process variation.
* lead cost reduction initiatives (va/ve), process optimization projects, and material consumption improvements.
* support oee improvement initiatives and bottleneck elimination activities.
equipment, automation, and capex
* lead capital investment (capex) projects including equipment selection, roi analysis, quoting, purchasing, installation, and commissioning.
* implement automation or semi-automation solutions focused on improving safety, quality, and productivity.
* define technical requirements and standards for tooling, fixtures, and critical equipment.
cross-functional collaboration
* work closely with production, quality, maintenance, supply chain, planning, and program management to ensure plant performance.
* participate in customer visits, audits, technical reviews, and corporate projects.
* ensure alignment with global engineering standards and internal best practices.
the candidate
professional education:
* bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, electrical, manufacturing, or related field) required.
* master’s degree preferred.
experience:
* minimum 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in automotive, electronics, cable, harness, or connector industries in mid-to-large manufacturing environments.
* minimum 3+ years of experience leading technical teams as a manufacturing engineering manager, engineering manager or similar.
* proven experience with npi (new product introductions) / product industrialization and strong process development.
technical knowledge:
* strong understanding of manufacturing processes for electrical assemblies required and cable products (highly preferred).
* knowledge of pfmea, control plans, apqp/ppap (as applicable).
* familiarity with lean manufacturing tools and structured problem-solving methodologies.
* ability to interpret drawings, specifications, boms, and technical requirements.
* experience with manufacturing test systems and validation methods.
* erp experience (sap preferred).
languages:
* english proficiency required (written and verbal). Spanish fluency a must.
preferred qualifications:
* experience with high-speed cable manufacturing and electrical performance requirements.
* experience with automation and equipment integration.
