the body d&r engineer will be responsible for engineering, design, development, timing, and production release of components such as: body-in-white, body closure sheet metal, hinging, fascia, bumper, underbody shield, wheel liners, cladding, flares, body exterior (moldings, badges, decals, vents), front lighting, ee & signal lighting, fixed glass, wipers, fuel door components, and systems, from initial concept through full production.
responsibilities include coordinating packaging with the product design office, vehicle development, exterior and body engineering teams, other departments (electromechanical, electrical, lighting, trim), and suppliers to design, develop, and release these components/systems.
the engineer will provide feasibility input based on product design sketches, clay models, and concepts. Additional responsibilities involve quality improvements, weight and cost reduction, and efficiency initiatives, including technical status communication to management.
other duties include developing functional and build objectives, managing dvp&r / dfmea, overseeing production suppliers, and releasing geometry using nx teamcenter cad tools.
requirements
* experience designing and developing body in white, closures, or exterior systems.
* proficiency with cad tools such as unigraphics nx, catia v5, and teamcenter in a production environment for biw.
* knowledge of high strength steels, aluminum forming processes, weld parameters, and gd&t.
* experience with dfmea, dvp&r, and validation plans.
* experience creating and editing boms.
* knowledge of design for six sigma (dfss) and green/black belt certifications are a plus.
* cae/cfd knowledge.
* excellent ms office skills (word, powerpoint, excel, outlook).
* catia v5 knowledge is a plus.
