the referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual salaries will be set within the range based on factors including market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise, and internal equity considerations.
responsibilities
* perform molecular biology techniques and experiments in support of a research lab, such as bacterial culture, plasmid dna preparation, maintenance of mammalian cell culture lines, yeast culture, protein purification, etc.
* animal colony management for mouse colonies, including breeding, weaning, pairing, tail snip, and inventory maintenance.
* data entry into established databases/spreadsheets for management of animal colonies; inventory control of animal numbers and ucar accounts.
* perform tissue harvests from adult mice and staged embryos and process using procedures related to gene expression analysis (realtime pcr, western blot, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, lacz reporter activity, etc.).
* independently perform general laboratory duties such as preparing culture media (mammalian and bacterial), chemical solutions, reagents, and re-stocking supplies for lab members.
* inventory lab materials, order supplies, and track spending.
* write laboratory formulas, procedures, and protocols; provide technical training for new lab members including postdoctoral fellows (animal handling and breeding, mouse genotyping, western blotting, bacterial plasmid culture and dna purification).
* maintain and support laboratory operations as needed.
minimum education & experience
* high school diploma required.
* associate’s degree in an appropriate discipline (preferably biology).
* 7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 3-4 years specialized experience in related field; previous work in a research lab highly preferred.
knowledge, skills and abilities
* mac, pc, and ms office; use of pipettes, gel apparatus, incubator/shaker, centrifuges, -80 freezer, biosafety cabinet, microscopes, pcr machine, and related lab equipment.
* osha safety knowledge and adherence to scientific methods.
