job summary
the network l3 engineer is a senior technical expert responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and advanced troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure. This role acts as the highest escalation point from l1/l2 teams, leads complex problem resolution, and provides long‐term architectural and operational improvements to ensure network stability, scalability, and performance.
key responsibilities
network engineering & design
• design and engineer enterprise‐scale network solutions (lan, wan, wlan, data center, cloud connectivity).
• create and maintain logical and physical network designs aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
• translate business and application requirements into actionable network designs and configurations.
implementation & change management
• develop and validate network configuration scripts for routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
• execute network changes during approved change windows, including after‐hours implementations.
• review and validate change documentation prepared by other engineers to ensure technical accuracy and risk mitigation.
advanced troubleshooting & escalations
• act as l3 escalation support for complex and chronic incidents not resolved by l1/l2 teams.
• perform deep root cause analysis (rca) and implement permanent fixes.
• troubleshoot across multi‐vendor, multi‐technology environments (on‐prem, hybrid, and cloud).
operational excellence
• establish and improve testing processes for applications and devices prior to production deployment.
• identify optimization, automation, and standardization opportunities.
• participate in on‐call and escalation rotations as required.
• support problem management and continuous improvement initiatives.
technical leadership & collaboration
• lead technical discussions with customers, stakeholders, and internal teams.
• serve as a technical mentor and sme for junior engineers.
• provide guidance on data, voice, vpn, and mobile network capabilities.
• ensure a high‐quality customer experience in all technical interactions.
required technical skills
core networking
• strong expertise in routing and switching (bgp, ospf, eigrp, stp, vlans).
• hands‐on experience with cisco enterprise networking solutions.
• deep understanding of enterprise wan technologies (mpls, sd‐wan, vpn).
security & infrastructure
• experience with firewalls, load balancers, and network security concepts.
• knowledge of network segmentation, access control, and secure connectivity.
tools & environments
• experience in multi‐site, global enterprise network environments.
• familiarity with itil processes (incident, change, problem management).
• exposure to cloud networking concepts (azure/aws/gcp) is a plus.
qualifications & experience
• 6+ years of enterprise network engineering experience.
• 4+ years operating at l3 / senior engineering level.
• proven experience working on complex, large‐scale network environments.
• relevant certifications preferred:
• ccnp / ccie (or equivalent)
• cloud networking certifications (optional)
