core responsibilities
* on‑floor process control – implement and audit in‑process quality controls, ensuring all production lines adhere to the control plan, work instructions, and technical specifications.
* real‑time defect mitigation – define and implement the process for reacting to and escalating quality excursions or production halts; apply exemption processes as defined.
* root cause analysis (rca) – drive and approve shop‑floor problem‑solving using 8d, fishbone, and 5‑why methodologies, ensuring corrective actions are physically implemented and effective.
* statistical process control (spc) – monitor live production data and control charts, identify trends or shifts in process capability (cpk), and intervene before products fall out of specification.
* poka‑yoke (error proofing) – collaborate with manufacturing engineering to build and implement physical or digital mistake‑proofing solutions to eliminate human error during assembly.
* layered process audits (lpa) – conduct regular, structured audits of manufacturing processes to ensure operators and supervisors follow standardized work.
* gauge & tooling management – work with supplier quality engineering on the calibration and msa of all gauges, jigs, and fixtures used on the production line.
* quality representative – act as the quality representative for specific suppliers, bridging all quality compliance changes and responsible for quality performance.
* new product introduction (npi) – support product and production approval activities from the npi team, verifying suppliers can consistently manufacture parts to specification.
* supplier auditing – conduct regular on‑site audits (system, process, and product audits) to verify compliance with iso 9001, iatf 16949, or other industry regulations.
* performance monitoring – maintain supplier scorecards to track key metrics such as dppm, timely delivery, and scar responsiveness.
* corrective action management – when defective material is identified, lead the scar process, driving suppliers to implement permanent systemic fixes.
