role overview
the process improvement engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, improve quality, and support operational scalability.
this role works closely with production, quality, engineering, and supply chain teams to implement lean methodologies, execute improvement projects, and drive performance enhancements across the plant.
process optimization
evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
develop and implement optimized workflows, layouts, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (sops).
conduct time studies, process mapping, and bottleneck analysis to increase throughput and productivity.
support capacity planning and process capability studies (cp, cpk).
continuous improvement initiatives
lead lean, kaizen, 5s, and waste-reduction activities across departments.
facilitate problem-solving workshops and root cause analysis using tools like 5 why, ishikawa, and dmaic.
drive initiatives that reduce cycle times, scrap, rework, and downtime.
support implementation of automation, new technologies, and digital production tools.
data analysis & performance monitoring
collect, analyze, and interpret production and quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
monitor performance kpis such as productivity, oee, scrap rates, and process efficiency.
present data-driven recommendations and improvement proposals to leadership.
cross-functional collaboration
work closely with production, maintenance, warehouse, and quality teams to ensure alignment on improvement actions.
support introduction of new products, materials, or equipment by developing robust processes.
provide training and technical guidance to operators and supervisors.
quality & compliance
ensure improved processes align with quality requirements, safety regulations, and internal standards.
support document control by updating sops, work instructions, and process documentation.
participate in internal and external audits as required.
project management
plan, execute, and track continuous improvement projects from conception to implementation.
manage timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
prepare progress reports and deliver project updates to management.
requirements
qualifications
bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.
2–5 years of experience in process engineering, continuous improvement, or manufacturing optimization.
knowledge of lean manufacturing, six sigma, and process improvement methodologies (green belt preferred).
skills
strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
proficiency in data analysis tools and microsoft office (excel required; power bi a plus).
experience with cad tools for layout design (preferred).
ability to manage multiple improvement projects simultaneously.
familiarity with erp/mes systems is a plus.
