Job title: material managerjob summary:the material manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of materials required for manufacturing operations. This role ensures the availability of materials at the right time, in the right quantity, and quality, while minimizing costs and optimizing inventory levels to support uninterrupted production processes.key responsibilities:material planning & procurement:develop and implement material planning strategies aligned with production schedules.forecast material requirements based on production demands and sales forecasts.coordinate with suppliers/vendors to procure quality materials at competitive prices.negotiate contracts and purchase agreements to ensure cost-effectiveness and timely delivery.inventory management:monitor inventory levels, conduct regular stock audits, and manage reorder points.optimize inventory turnover rates and reduce excess or obsolete inventory.implement and maintain inventory control systems (e.g., erp software).material receiving & inspection:oversee receipt of materials, ensuring compliance with quality and quantity standards.coordinate with quality control for inspection and approval of incoming materials.warehouse & storage management:manage the storage and proper handling of materials in warehouses.ensure materials are stored safely, organized, and easily accessible.coordination & communication:collaborate closely with production, procurement, quality, and logistics teams.provide regular reports on material availability, inventory status, and procurement activities.cost control & budgeting:monitor and control material costs within the approved budget.identify cost-saving opportunities in sourcing, storage, and handling.compliance & safety:ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.maintain proper documentation and records for audits and traceability.qualifications & skills:bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.proven experience (typically 3-5 years) in materials management or procurement in a manufacturing environment.strong knowledge of inventory management systems (erp/mrp).excellent negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills.ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.strong communication and interpersonal skills.familiarity with quality control processes and supplier management.key performance indicators (kpis):inventory turnover ratiomaterial availability ratecost savings achieved in procurementsupplier delivery performancereduction in material wastage or obsolescence
