Overview

SAJOMA Climate Technical Consulting provides support and expert advice for the evaluation, development and certification of emission reduction projects. SAJOMA collaborates with Proyecto Mirador, a Gold Standard certified cookstove carbon reduction project based in Central America, to provide technical solutions and accompaniment throughout the carbon certification and verification lifecycle.

SAJOMA is seeking a well-rounded candidate with technical and field experience to support technical excellence, market intelligence, and the continuous improvement of project documentation and methodologies.

Position

Senior Carbon Specialist

Key Responsibilities

- Contribute development expertise to specific carbon projects (cookstove and non-cookstove).
- Develop, manage and review technical documents for carbon offset projects, including:
- Stakeholder Consultation Reports
- Emission Reduction Calculation Spreadsheets
- Responses to findings from VVBs and Standards
- Monitoring and Verification Reports
- Other miscellaneous documentation for carbon certification
- Participate in project validation and verification site visits
- Track and analyze rule updates and standard procedures for the primary carbon standards
- Track, analyze and report on market conditions in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM)
- Collaborate on the development of carbon pricing instruments
- Review and oversee project certification assessments
- Participation in regular project leadership meetings
- Analyze and recommend improvements to the GS emission reduction calculation template and other compliance materials for ICS projects
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Digital MRV (dMRV) initiatives (Kitchen Performance Tests, Continuous Usage/SUMS Monitors, data analysis tools, etc.)
- Track evolving sources of fNRB (non-renewable biomass) values, understand calculation mechanisms and contribute to ongoing industry developments (MoFuSS, CLEAR, UNFCCC, etc.)
- Track and maintain Centigrade and other project listing databases
- Provide QA/QC for English-language project documentation
- Maintain public documents on GS Registry in coordination with SAJOMA Project Manager
- Attend weekly calls with the Project Developer Forum (PD Forum); track communications and report on key takeaways
- Track public comment periods; draft and coordinate stakeholder feedback relevant to cookstoves and the VCM (UNFCCC, PD Forum, GS, etc.)
- Follow developments to the CLEAR methodology and participate in Clean Cooking Alliance 4C meetings
- Attend ETHOS cookstove conference (annual, typically in late January)
- Track GS methodology and revisions to GS Rules, including ongoing analysis of the GS ER template for ICS projects
- Work with Mirador's President to track developments related to CORSIA, Article 6, Corresponding Adjustments, and other Host Country initiatives involving ICS (e.g. NDCs, Carbon Offsets Schemes)
- Prepare procurement RFPs and complete Due Diligence requests as needed

Experience required
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the development and/or auditing of carbon offset projects and standards in the Voluntary Carbon Market, and specifically the Gold Standard. Experience with ICS project development is ideal
- Working knowledge of international climate policy, including the Paris Agreement
- Hands-on experience with Improved Cookstove projects is preferred, with specific reference to the Gold Standard's TPDDTEC methodology

Languages
- Native Proficiency in Spanish
- Full Professional Proficiency in English (spoken and written)

Modality and Commitment
- Full time, permanent engagement with SAJOMA Climate Technical Consulting (employer)
- 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with 50% devoted to Proyecto Mirador
- Start Date: To be agreed with the selected candidate

Remuneration
- Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications
- Basic benefits (to be defined with the selected candidate based on location)

Duty station
- Fully Remote
- Preference for candidates located in Mexico, Central America, Colombia, or Peru
- Candidates in Europe and other locations will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Travel Requirements
- Travel as required to fulfill the responsibilities indicated above
- Candidate shall be U.S. visa holder, or have a demonstrated ability to travel to the U.S.
- Frequent travel expected to the Western U.S., Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala
