job summary
our server team members are our brand ambassadors, ensuring guests experience a fun, relaxed and exceptional dining experience. Servers are expected to be approachable, friendly, hospitable and professional, ensuring jinya’s service standards are properly executed. Servers are responsible for ensuring our guests receive the best dining experience through execution of steps of service. All servers work in unison contributing to the guests’ dining experience by providing amazing service and full menu knowledge.
primary responsibilities
* serve guests in a professional and positive manner, including but not limited to taking food and beverage orders, delivering food and beverages, and ensuring an exceptional dining experience.
* utilize jinya’s steps of service, up‑selling techniques and proper menu knowledge to guide guests to daily specials, address dietary needs, and delight guests with our unique ramen and tapas offerings.
* greet guests as they arrive, ensuring proper seating arrangements and reservation check‑in or providing a proper wait‑list time, if necessary, and engaging guests to ensure a great dining experience.
* embrace the jinya culture and participate in proper company greetings such as “irasshai” and “arigato.”
* communicate clearly and concisely in a positive and professional manner with guests and team members, both front and back of the house operations, answer phone calls, take reservations and assign guests to proper tables while maintaining consistent server rotation when needed.
* ensure cleanliness of service station, including any area visible to guests upon seating.
* support team members in front‑of‑house operations, such as refilling beverages, organizing table arrangements, table maintenance, polishing plates or glasses, resetting tables or other necessary items as requested.
* respond to minor guest complaints and alert management of any major or critical concerns.
* know restaurant information, such as hours of operations, menu, allergies, table numbers, payment options and any relevant information to the operations of the restaurant.
* promote and execute jinya’s core values of teamwork, hospitality, authenticity, creativity and integrity.
* complete projects and/or tasks as requested or required by manager(s) or supervisor(s).
required competencies
* minimum 2–3 years of server experience, preferably in a high‑volume atmosphere.
* outstanding and professional verbal and written skills, with strong ability to multi‑task.
* positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure.
* ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, and to write simple correspondence.
* willingness to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification when needed.
* experience operating a pos system or host system (opentable or similar).
* ability to lead by example, inspire and motivate team spirit, and effectively present information in one‑on‑one settings and/or small group situations.
* dependable, reliable, self‑motivated and self‑initiated to ensure the restaurant is clean and presentable to guests.
* experience working in a multi‑cultural environment.
* ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
* ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time, and to lift and maneuver through limited space.
required education
* be able to write and speak english.
* must have appropriate city, state and federal certifications, including alcohol and food handling certificates, according to the location of the restaurant.
physical demands
the physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by our team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties, the team member is required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The team member must be able to distinguish between sweet, savory and other food flavours. The team member will work indoors and outdoors, which might be hot, humid and wet. Ability to reach, bend, and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds is required. Working in a standing position for long periods of time is required.
