important note:
this is a supervisory and management position that is also hands-on and technical. The role focuses on implementing, supporting, and strengthening ehs programs within the facility. Candidates with proven experience in industrial ehs compliance and risk reduction will be given priority.
about the role:
we are seeking an experienced ehs manager to lead all safety, health, and environmental programs in our mushroom farming and composting operations. This is a supervisory and hands-on technical role ensuring regulatory compliance, a safe workplace, and risk reduction across farm, composting tunnels, packaging, and transportation. The ehs manager will coordinate with leadership and serve as the main contact for regulatory agencies, contractors, and consultants.
key responsibilities:
* lead, implement, and maintain ehs programs for mushroom farm operations.
* ensure compliance with osha, epa, dep, and other regulations.
* conduct inspections, audits, and reporting across farm, composting, packaging, and logistics operations.
* deliver training on worker safety, chemical handling, confined spaces, ppe, ergonomics, and hazard communication.
* investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
* manage workers' compensation cases and return-to-work programs.
* maintain all documentation and regulatory submissions (air permits, wastewater, hazardous waste, spill prevention).
* promote proactive safety practices and employee engagement.
* provide regular ehs performance updates to director of ehs and farm leadership.
education & certifications:
* bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or safety and hygiene / industrial safety engineering (required).
* valid professional certification or license in a related field (cédula profesional, mexico) required.
* master's degree in occupational safety and hygiene (seguridad e higiene ocupacional) is a plus.
* professional certifications are strongly preferred, including:
* csp (certified safety professional)
* cih (certified industrial hygienist)
* chmm (certified hazardous materials manager)
* nebosh international general certificate
* iso 45001/14001 lead auditor/implementer
* osha 30-hour general industry/construction
* first aid/cpr
* h2s safety
* forklift/heavy equipment certification
qualifications:
* minimum 5 years managing ehs programs in food production, or industrial operations.
* knowledge of mexican ehs regulations and ability to adapt to u.s. standards.
* proven ability to lead programs, conduct audits, and implement corrective actions.
* excellent communication and project management skills.
* bilingual english/spanish
* strong leadership, problem-solving, and employee engagement skills.
* ability to train and engage employees at all levels.
* proficient in microsoft office (excel, word, powerpoint).
