job description
administers the efficient and economical movement of goods (e.g., materials, products, equipment) across international borders in accordance with organizational policies and in compliance with relevant local, country, and international customs laws and processes.
* prepares, reviews, approves, and maintains files for import/export documents such as customs declarations, purchase orders, packing lists, commercial invoices, shippers’ letter of instruction, shipper’s export declaration, bill of lading, air waybill, import certificate, etc., required for lawful completion of import/export activities.
* ensures that commercial and sales invoices are accurate in accordance with the physical shipment, customer's sli, quantities, value of goods, country of origin, and other regulatory requirements.
* serves as an import/export liaison for international customers/subsidiaries, distribution, procurement, planning, manufacturing, intercompany finance, regulatory and import/export compliance functions.
* maintains effective and efficient management of the annex24 systems to ensure completeness, accuracy, and validity of the information registered with customs import and export operations.
* has daily interactions with u.s. Customs brokers to solve any issue or discrepancy in the clearance/customs process.
* maintains direct communication with the customs operations supervisor for reporting any incidents that involve relevant issues or weaknesses on the customs clearance process (us/mx).
* performs detailed analysis for new routes or import processes and designs correct operations controls to ensure that all legal requirements are met and to avoid customs penalties.
* elaborates import and export invoices in annex24 system and sapgts module for all types of materials.
* performs on‑time review and authorization of pedimentos.
* analyzes and defines which tariff benefit to use depending on import operations.
* manages pedimentos and virtual operations, regime changes, and regularizations.
* performs monthly virtual operations closing on time to avoid incurring customs fines for temporary import/export operations.
* coordinates information generation and periodic report creation related to customs, foreign trade, and certifications.
* prepares reports and presentations of managerial information of its activities and presents results to management in periodic meetings.
* maintains direct communication with mexican and american customs brokers in the proceedings before customs, coordinates the operation of merchandise inspectors (broker clerk) both at the airport and at the san diego warehouse.
* ensures compliance with security programs and/or c‑tpat/aeo certifications in foreign trade operations.
* contacts transport companies (programming and confirmation) to ensure an efficient flow of goods.
* verifies special requirements for hazmat (safe‑tech).
* engages in other activities inherent to the customs department.
* has knowledge of bom structures and annex24 backflush.
* maintains an updated and complete physical file of the customs operations and ensures required flow of documents with related parts.
* monitors import and export operations, and reports issues or potential risks directly to the supervisor.
* follows instructions contained in the internal work regulation concerning safety, care of equipment, materials, facilities and other resources owned by the company.
* carries out work in accordance with the methods, instructions, and authorized and updated specifications applicable to the customs department.
