We build and operate the platform capabilities behind reporting, dashboards, interactive analytical applications, and ai-powered analytics. We also own key parts of zillow’s trusted metrics foundation and the compute and warehouse capabilities that power analytics across the business.
beyond the platform itself, we help define the standards, reusable patterns, and governance that make insights easier to build, easier to trust, and easier to scale across zillow group. you’ll work on a broad set of high-impact problems, from trusted metrics and platform architecture to ai-enabled analytics experiences. You’ll help shape how teams across zillow discover data, ask questions, and make decisions with confidence.
about the role
we’re hiring a senior software development engineer to help build the next generation of zillow’s analytics and insights platform.
this role is ideal for an engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals and experience in data platforms or data engineering. Experience with ai/llm-powered workflows is preferred. You’ll work on high-impact platform problems at the intersection of trusted metrics, self-service analytics, metadata, and ai-powered workflows.
you’ll help make it easier for teams across zillow to onboard to the platform, discover trusted data, ask better questions, and build insights without reinventing tooling or redefining metrics. Current work includes efforts around semantic consistency, onboarding, discoverability, and operationalizing ai-ready data workflows.
what you’ll do
1. build and evolve platform capabilities for reporting, dashboards, interactive applications, and ai-powered analytical experiences
2. develop systems that improve how users discover, understand, and use trusted data and metrics
3. contribute to the metrics, metadata, and governance foundations that enable reliable self-service analytics at scale
4. improve analytics infrastructure, warehouse and compute integrations, and platform developer experience
5. design and ship ai-enabled workflows that simplify onboarding, insight creation, and interaction with the data platform
6. apply llms pragmatically in product and developer workflows to improve usability, quality, and productivity
7. own projects end-to-end, from design through production rollout and adoption
8. partner with engineers, data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable analytics solutions used across zillow group
9. help define technical standards, golden paths, and reusable patterns that raise consistency and trust across the analytics ecosystem
this role has been categorized as a remote position. “remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the company. U.s. employees may live in any of the 50 united states, with limited exceptions.
in addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.
who you are
required
10. strong software engineering experience, including designing and shipping production systems
11. experience in data engineering, data platforms, analytics infrastructure, or warehouse and compute systems
12. experience building scalable, reliable platform capabilities used by multiple teams
13. ability to work through ambiguity and drive technical solutions in a fast-moving environment
14. strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence across teams
15. experience using and operating databricks
preferred
16. experience building ai/llm-powered product or developer experiences
17. familiarity with bi tools such as tableau, amplitude, power bi.
18. familiarity with prompt engineering, evaluation, or guardrails for ai-assisted workflows
19. experience with semantic layers, metrics platforms, metadata systems, or self-service analytics tooling
20. product sense for internal platforms, including reducing friction, improving adoption, and making complex systems intuitive for users
