Overview
tse cae thermal engineer
in this position, the cae engineer will conduct full-vehicle thermal analysis using computational fluid dynamics (cfd) simulations to support ford's vehicle development programs. The role involves leading full-vehicle transient thermal cae modeling, from data collection and cad cleanup to meshing, boundary condition setup, and post-processing. The focus includes evaluating front-end cooling system performance, under-hood and body component thermal robustness, and cabin human comfort. The engineer will generate technical insights and actionable recommendations based on cae simulations and test data, collaborate with global teams, and document cae activities per ford's thermal process to ensure traceability and compliance.
the position requires collaboration with the global thermal team, cad specialists, cae integration experts, design and release engineers, and other departments, and requires presenting findings to engineers, partners, and leadership.
a forward-thinking mindset is expected, with a focus on continuously improving cae processes (accuracy, capabilities, cad-to-results turnaround time, and cost-effectiveness) through process improvements.
responsibilities
* lead and execute comprehensive vehicle transient thermal cae modeling from inception to completion (cad data acquisition, model cleanup, meshing, boundary condition setup, post-processing).
* conduct frontend cae analyses (3d airflow, heat exchanger and fan sizing) and optimize front-end openings and grille designs to meet performance targets.
* evaluate exterior design proposals from the studio for thermal performance alignment with overall objectives during the design phase.
* collaborate with the aerodynamics team to balance thermal design with aerodynamic efficiency.
* work with the thermal program team and stakeholders to deliver optimal thermal environments for under-hood and body components.
* evaluate and optimize cabin thermal environment for energy efficiency and human comfort, ensuring compliance with comfort standards.
* interface with the global ford team to align with global strategies and standards.
* deliver high-quality cae results and continuously improve accuracy, performance, and turnaround time within cost-effective frameworks.
* provide expert technical recommendations on design optimizations and countermeasures based on cae data.
* present findings to thermal program engineers, department partners, and leadership.
qualifications
* bachelor's degree in engineering.
* minimum 3 years of professional experience in product engineering.
* at least 5 years of hands-on experience using cfd and cad tools to conduct comprehensive thermal analysis for complete vehicle systems.
* experience working within a globally distributed team.
nice to have
* master of science in mechanical or aeronautical engineering or higher with specialization in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, or hev battery technologies.
