luces de abril is a new feature-length project seeking talented artists to bring it to life. They are looking for a highly skilled and experienced 2d hand-drawn animator to join the development team. The ideal candidate has an exceptional artistic sensibility, a deep understanding of traditional animation principles, and a proven ability to animate nuanced, human performances. While mastery of hand-drawn animation is essential, familiarity with blender’s grease pencil will be a significant asset.
responsibilities
* create high-quality 2d hand-drawn animation, emphasizing character depth and authenticity.
* animate subtle human expressions, gestures, and body language to convey complex emotions.
* collaborate with the director and layout team to ensure artistic consistency and alignment with the project vision.
* refine animations based on feedback, maintaining high quality standards.
* work with other departments to ensure smooth integration into the production pipeline.
* manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
location
preferably based in mexico, but exceptions are possible for highly qualified candidates.
this position is for 7 weeks starting in august 2025.
requirements
* extensive professional experience as a 2d hand-drawn animator.
* a portfolio demonstrating skill in animating subtle human performances and expressive characters.
* strong understanding of traditional 2d animation principles.
* excellent drawing skills, anatomy, character design, and posing.
* ability to interpret storyboards and animatics.
* self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently and in a team.
* bonus: familiarity with blender's grease pencil.
* bonus: experience with clean-up and in-betweening.
* bonus: background in traditional art and life drawing.
additional courses to prepare
we offer courses to help you master the 12 basic principles of animation, traditional 2d animation basics, and character animation focused on emotion and expression. These courses prepare students for creating engaging animations and a short film project, including a teaser for the cinanima festival, incorporating traditional portuguese elements. Enrollments require a portfolio demonstrating the skills learned in our initial courses.
