the junior buyer role focuses on material planning and supplier management to support opco portfolio finish goods production.
responsibilities
material planning specialist is responsible for supplier management of the opco issued purchase orders and erp scheduling requirements, coordinating suppliers and order execution for multiple components, subassemblies, raw materials, finished goods, production equipment, and supplies from approved suppliers within assigned commodity areas.
optimize procurement and sourcing supply chain, follow up key kpis and metrics, develop standard work and training as required, and work as part of a cross-functional team.
maintain data in the erp system to support past due purchase orders, supplier lead times, boms, routings, and other data to ensure erp operates per the planer/buyer function.
ensure data integrity for supplier pricing, lead-times, terms, and conditions; validate, load, and maintain data in the system.
coordinate purchase orders and demand signals from manufacturing (u.s.) with local suppliers using kanban, mrp, blanket agreements; obtain supplier confirmations, update systems, and inform production and planning of supply risks; expedite deliveries as demand changes.
communicate with suppliers regularly regarding urgent requirements and near-term demand (1-3 months), lead times, risk, capacity constraints, raw material constraints; identify alternate solutions to avoid delays and shortages.
respond quickly to material shortages, supplier escalations, and logistics issues to maintain material flow to production in coordination with opco supply chain.
use erp data to provide demand data, demand history, and forecasts to suppliers so they can adjust plans to meet opco requirements.
maintain strong supplier communications and escalation contacts to understand supplier processes and constraints that may impact deliveries to opco.
collaborate with purchasing manager to enhance procurement processes based on supplier performance and capacity; consider procurement methods such as kanban, vmi, and rop.
act as liaison between opco material requirements and supplier production capabilities to highlight gaps and drive changes to align supply and demand.
lead development and deployment of material replenishment with metal stamping suppliers, understand capacity and constraints, and drive changes with planning to maximize alignment.
work with production, scheduling, warehouse, and logistics to understand schedule changes and communicate risks of material delays to enable on-time deliveries to opco customers.
partner with engineering and sourcing to identify alternate materials or local suppliers to mitigate shortages and price increases.
actively participate with product management providing purchase part information related to engineering changes, eol, discontinuities, etc.
collaborate with quality to implement supplier scorecards and request corrective actions to improve supplier performance.
qualifications – skills and experience
b.s. degree in engineering, business or supply chain.
minimum of 5-7 years' supply chain and/or purchasing work experience in a manufacturing environment.
qualifications – dover competencies
proactive and analytical data-driven person able to communicate with high efficiency remotely.
background in negotiations aimed at minimizing supply shortages and overall cost.
innate self-learning ability to rapidly adopt and understand opco systems, processes and culture.
experience in vendor relations management with suppliers of different commodities (metal and aluminum, plastic, cables and wiring).
experience leading cross-functional teams between supplier, planning, and procurement opco teams in geographically diverse locations.
problem-solving mindset with a focus on process optimization.
continuous improvement and lean manufacturing mindset.
cpim/ apics certification
ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and manage under constrained time frames.
to be a great fit for the role
erp systems experience (e.g., visual erp or similar).
proficient in excel and power bi.
cpim or related certifications.
ability to expand bandwidth within purchasing.
