Objective of the role
lead and develop the database administration practice within the infrastructure team, ensuring the reliability, scalability, security, and performance of the company's databases. This role combines deep technical expertise with team leadership, and cross-functional collaboration. As a hands-on leader, you will guide engineering excellence, performance improvements, maintenance plans and mplement best practices in support of our fintech platform's growth and resilience.
main responsibilities
* provide technical leadership and strategic direction for the dba team, ensuring alignment with the company's infrastructure and data objectives.
* manage the end-to-end lifecycle of database platforms, including design, implementation, performance tuning, maintenance, upgrades, and decommissioning.
* oversee the implementation of best practices in database design, optimization, and automation to ensure scalability, performance, and cost efficiency.
* supervise the execution of database-related incident management, recovery procedures, and root cause analysis to minimize service disruption.
* collaborate with platform, devops, data, and product teams to ensure database solutions are well-integrated into cloud-native and ci/cd environments.
* partner with infosec and compliance teams to ensure database systems meet regulatory and audit requirements for data protection and access control.
* drive the implementation and continuous improvement of infrastructure-as-code practices and automated workflows for database operations.
* coach and mentor database engineers, providing technical guidance, development feedback, and support for career growth.
* define, enforce, and evolve database governance standards, including operational runbooks, monitoring practices, and disaster recovery plans.
* monitor key health and performance metrics of the database ecosystem, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
* support infrastructure capacity planning and cost management efforts through accurate forecasting and scalability analysis.
* represent the dba function in technical planning, design, and architecture forums, influencing strategic decisions and advocating for data resilience.
* drive a culture of continuous improvement, ownership, and accountability within the database team.
* promote an autonomous work culture by encouraging self-management, accountability, and proactive problem-solving among team members.
* serve as a spin culture ambassador to foster and maintain a positive, inclusive, and dynamic work environment that aligns with the company's values and culture.
required knowledge and experience
* bachelor's degree in computer science, systems engineering, information technology, or a related field.
* minimum 5 years of experience in database engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or mentoring role.
* proven experience in managing and scaling relational and nosql databases in production environments (e.g., postgresql, mysql, mongodb).
* deep expertise in sql performance tuning, schema optimization, and database internals.
* strong hands-on experience with cloud-native database platforms (aws rds, aurora, gcp cloud sql, dynamodb, etc.).
* proficiency in scripting languages (python, bash) and infrastructure-as-code tools (terraform, cloudformation).
* familiarity with devops pipelines, observability tools (e.g., prometheus, grafana, datadog), and database monitoring best practices.
* strong knowledge of backup strategies, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity for databases.
* experience managing compliance and security requirements in regulated environments (e.g., iso 27001, soc2, gdpr).
* demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, influence technical direction, and build strong team dynamics.
* excellent communication, planning, and decision-making skills.
