collaborate with innovative 3mers around the world
the role is responsible for representing 3m in mexico positions before federal, state and municipal governmental ministries/secretariats and institutions and policy makers to advance 3m company’s goals of advocating for policies and fostering political relationships that will enable business success.
the position further requires collaboration with the company’s regulatory, legal, compliance teams, and business and operations executives to help develop and advocate for the company’s positions on public policy issues, as well as monitoring and reporting on all governmental issues impacting the company.
the position also requires close, cross-functional work with 3m’s government affairs team, including the 3m government affairs director of mexico and latam, plant managers in mexico, ehs in plants, bg and division leaders and teams in mexico, to advance 3m public affairs and gov affairs value in a business-led growth model. Solid collaboration with 3m public affairs is essential.
the impact you’ll make in this role
* supporting the gov affairs director and representing the company before and interacting with all levels of government in mexico city and specifically in our 4 plant locations (state ga).
* cultivating and maintaining relationships with key government officials and stakeholders relevant to 3m’s business goals.
* developing and supporting advocacy strategies that deliver concrete policy and regulatory results.
* engaging and educating authorities on the business and policy goals, and the potential impact of policies, legislation, and regulations. Facilitating opportunities for company executives to engage with decision-makers through meetings, dialogues, and events. Preparing company representatives for these engagements.
* drafting comments, white papers, and research for submissions on policy matters.
* monitoring policy, regulatory, and legislative developments, and reporting on advocacy activities and risks. Keeping internal teams informed and advising on strategies.
* supporting the obtaining and renewal of administrative permits in compliance with regulations.
* assisting in the development and implementation of market launch strategies from a government affairs perspective.
your skills and expertise
candidates should have:
* bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, political science, public administration, public affairs, business, communication, or related fields.
* minimum of 10 years (preferably 15) experience in government/public affairs, relations, regulatory affairs, or as a government official, preferably with a multinational or trade association.
* deep knowledge of mexico’s government institutions, networks, and policy-making processes, especially regarding standards, ip, market access, and technology regulation.
* strong communication and presentation skills.
* fluency in spanish and english, with cultural sensitivity.
additional beneficial qualifications include:
* master’s degree or mba.
* familiarity with mexico’s public policy and political landscape.
* ability to quickly understand regulatory issues affecting mexico and its industries.
* proven ability to build and maintain government relationships.
* global perspective on policy impacts.
* leadership, initiative, creativity, collaboration, and sound judgment.
* experience in navigating government relationships and implementing strategies on complex issues.
* effective advocacy, persuasion, consensus-building, and political acumen, especially in cross-cultural settings.
travel requirements: 20% domestic (to 3m plants) and international travel as needed for headquarters activities.
