position details
* title: certified peer specialist
* department: behavioral health clinic
* reports to: director of behavioral health
overall responsibility
the certified peer specialist is a member of the treatment team, participating in staff meetings regarding individual care. They do not handle independent client caseloads. The role focuses on supporting individuals' recovery from behavioral health disorders, tailored to each person's treatment plan.
key tasks and responsibilities
1. develop rapport with clients.
2. identify and develop treatment plans with clients.
3. assist with open access and crisis processes.
4. provide guidance and skills for recovery.
5. help clients access community services.
6. collaborate with an integrated team to meet clients' mental and physical health needs.
7. document client encounters.
8. report crisis situations to the crisis team and director.
9. meet clients in community, home, and office settings.
10. transport clients as needed.
11. assist with conflict resolution and problem-solving.
12. utilize personal recovery experience to support others.
13. motivate and inspire clients towards change.
skills and attributes

physical requirements
ability to work at a computer for extended periods, provide cpi non-violence crisis intervention skills, with minimal lifting.
minimum education and licensure
* high school diploma required.
* credential from the missouri credentialing board of certified peer specialists.
experience requirements
at least one year of direct mental health experience in inpatient or outpatient settings. Familiarity with crisis intervention is preferred but training can be provided.
