Supply chain professional overview
this is a challenging role requiring strong leadership skills and experience in overseeing multiple plants.
the successful candidate will be responsible for guiding the materials team to achieve key performance indicators (kpis) and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
key responsibilities:
* develop departmental systems, procedures, and policies involving purchasing, production, and material control.
* interface with quality department to ensure all systems are up-to-date and compliant.
* oversee production schedules, including material procurement and manufacturing schedules.
* monitor reports and communicate with staff to ensure sufficient materials are available to production and maintain inbound raw materials and outbound shipping schedules.
* develop supplier relationships to ensure a continuous source of vendors.
* work with corporate purchasing as a resource for supplier information and meet with supplier representatives locally.
* stay informed on availability and price trends of new materials, products, and sources.
* devise methods and policies to ensure the most efficient and economical movement of materials in and out of the plant.
* follow quality procedures to effect change through procedures, work instructions, and training.
* take necessary actions to eliminate delays and ensure adherence to production and shipping schedules.
* create workflow changes as necessary to prevent timing issues and communicate all changes to staff members.
* direct the usage of materials to produce the product, considering numerous variables.
* assess and anticipate material trends and usage based on initial information for new and ongoing programs.
* develop systems and programs to ensure effectiveness within quality guidelines and formats.
* participate in annual budget forecasts and report costs for material and labor within the material group to plant manager as needed.
* oversee prompt shipment schedules to ensure customer requirements are met using available resources and tools.
* analyze future customer demand to identify manpower, tooling, and equipment needs.
* coordinate physical inventories and entry of same in accordance with established processes.
qualifications:
* bachelor's degree
* previous experience in material planning/purchasing
* additional buyer experience in repetitive, just-in-time manufacturing beneficial
* expertise in use of mrp and qad systems
* previous management experience
* manages all areas of materials department, including receiving, scheduling, warehousing, and shipping activities
* apics certification a plus
