role summary: the general practitioner (gp) will provide comprehensive medical care to patients of all age groups, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of common illnesses and chronic diseases.
the gp will play a vital role in promoting health and well-being, offering patient-centered primary care services, and coordinating with specialists to ensure continuity of care.
this role demands strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate approach to patient management.
key duties
perform thorough patient consultations to assess symptoms, diagnose illnesses, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
provide general medical care for acute and chronic conditions, including infections, injuries, hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory diseases.
conduct regular health check-ups, preventive screenings, and immunizations.
prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with established medical guidelines.
manage and monitor ongoing patient treatment, adjusting plans based on clinical progress.
maintain accurate and timely patient medical records in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
provide counseling and education on disease prevention, nutrition, and lifestyle modification.
coordinate referrals to specialists, diagnostic services, and other healthcare providers as needed.
handle minor procedures such as wound suturing, incision and drainage, and injections.
participate in emergency care and first-response medical support when required.
contribute to clinical audits, continuous quality improvement, and medical case discussions.
stay updated with current medical research, guidelines, and best practices in general medicine.
ensure adherence to ethical, legal, and professional standards in all patient interactions.
required skills
medical degree (md, mbbs, or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
valid medical license to practice in (insert country/region) or eligibility for licensing.
minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience in general or family medicine.
proven competence in diagnosing and managing a broad range of medical conditions.
strong skills in patient assessment, clinical decision-making, and emergency care.
excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients and medical staff.
ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
preferred skills
postgraduate qualification or certification in family medicine, general practice, or internal medicine.
experience in outpatient, inpatient, or community healthcare settings.
