the quality manager is responsible for leading and managing the quality management system (qms) at the cts tecate thermistor manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with industry, medical, and customer-specific quality standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement, defect prevention, and robust customer satisfaction. The role requires close collaboration with internal teams and global suppliers & customers, with a strong emphasis on advanced ceramics processing and manual operations typical in thermistor production.
responsibilities
* lead, manage, and continuously improve the site's quality management system (qms), ensuring compliance with iso 9001, iso 13485, and customer-specific requirements.
* champion quality performance targets: internal scrap, rework, fpy, cost of poor quality, and customer returns—including warranty and in-field failures. Report out to various audiences on a periodic basis.
* develop and implement ceramic-specific quality controls for supplier management, wire-cutting, soldering, plastic injection mold, and electrical testing processes to ensure robust defect detection and prevention.
* enforce traceability, lot control, and material verification across all thermistor production lines.
* lead/champion formal problem-solving methodologies (8d, a3) using tools like 5 whys, fishbone diagrams, fmeas, and six sigma to reduce variation and eliminate root causes.
* serve as the primary quality contact for medical and industrial customers, managing audits, scorecards, and corrective actions.
* coach, mentor, and lead a team of quality engineers and technicians. Foster development in advanced quality planning (apqp), control plans, gauge r&r, msa, and spc.
* lead internal and external audits, maintaining certification readiness.
* provide data-driven leadership to improve customer ppm, on-time ppap submission, and proactive response to quality trends.
* stop production or shipments if a suspected quality issue arises.
* develop and manage quality department budgets, kpis, and strategic goals aligned with site operational plans.
* partner with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, maintenance) to implement mistake-proofing (poka-yoke), visual controls, and layered process audits (lpas).
* required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
* deep understanding of ceramic materials and thermistor manufacturing processes preferred
* expertise in iatf 16949, iso 9001, iso 14001
* proficiency with ppap, fmea, spc, msa, control plans
* strong problem-solving and statistical analysis skills (minitab preferred)
* experience leading six sigma and lean manufacturing initiatives
* excellent communication and customer relationship management skills
* bilingual in spanish and english required (verbal and written)
qualifications
• bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, or related technical field
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality leadership role, preferably in electronics or ceramic components
• asq certified quality engineer (cqe) or certified quality manager (cmq/oe) preferred
• experience working with global customers and audit teams
• occasional travel, including international, may be required
• must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally
• regular exposure to production floor environment
